The Lyrics

The final scene from "The Taming of the Shrew" Pretruccio - He came to wive it wealthily in Padua - : Brad Pitt Katherina - Hates sleasy men - : UnknownVotress Bianca - She's a woman who knows her place - : Angelina Jolie
Thy husband's thy lord
Thy life, thy keeper
Thy head, thy soverign
The one that cares for thee
Thy maint'nance commits his body
To painful labor by both sea and land
To watch the night
In storms and the day in cold whilest thou
Liest warm, secure and safe.

Dart not scornful glances from thine eyes
To wound thy lord, thy governor
Blots beauty as frost bites meads
Confounds fame as whirlwinds shake fair buds
No sense meet or amiable.

When she is froward, peevish
Sullen and sour
And disobedient
To his honest will
She's a foul, contending rebel
And graceless traitor to her loving lord
She should kneel down and
Seek peace, not seek rule, supremecy and sway
When she is bound
To serve and love and obey

He craves no other tribute at thy hands
But love, fair looks, obedience
So little pay for great debt
Such duty as the subject
Even such a woman
Oweth to her husband.

Why are our bodies soft,
And weak and smooth
Unapt to toil
And trouble in the world
So vail your stomachs, t'is no boot
So place your hand 'neath your husband's foot
In your token of...

In token of duty
I'm ready if he please
My hand is now ready
To do him ease
To do him ease x2

Worthy of the Bard, my friend. BTW, I didn't know that you were "shrewish". ;D

Thanks, Old Man - I hope so.

I'm not familiar with "The Taming of the Shrew", rather, more familiar with Dave Barry's home-improvement book parody "The Taming of the Screw", but this was still a great parody. I'm not married, but husbands do often seem like they think they're God, particularly abusive or domineering ones. 5s.

Sounds like the model wife...

Thanks, Andria - The Taming of the Shrew is Shakespeare's most famous comedy and Kiss Me, Kate by Cole Porter is a modern version of it. KMK has some great music. Most romantic stories were patterned after The Taming of the Shrew - Gone with the Wind, It Happened One Night, etc.. Thanks, AFW - sounds more like the Stockholm syndrome.

The play is one of my faves, but I'm afraid I got a little muddled in trying to pace it... Nevertheless, enjoyed reading the text again! And your comment about the romantic stories has a bit of truth in it! (Most recently, 10 Things I Hate About You) :)

Thanks, Fiddle - I was more concerned about keeping the lines from the play as they were than I was about pacing, but I had to rearrange the original text and condense it. The OS goes just perfectly with the final scene from "Shrew".
Tommy Turtle - February 15, 2010 - Report this comment
Of course you had to rearrange the original text and condense it -- so why not do so in such a manner as to pace to TOS? It's been done a couple of times before, somewhere around here. ;)

Very flattering to see a genre that we created motivate others to continue it, but there were only one or two lines in the whole song that paced to TOS. The rest ranged from a little off to not even close. (FG, as sweet as she is, was being very kind). It's *supposed* to pace; that's why there's a "pacing" box to vote.

This is going to hurt me more than it'll hurt you (seriously), but 1-5-3, with hope that you'll rework it, either to this or another OS, to capture the lines *and* pace them to whatever OS. *That* would be a classic.. Congrats on taking on the task, though -- it's not as easy as it might look, as you've seen. Cheers, and no offense intended.

May the "Bard" be with you, cause the wife won't!! LOL
2Eagle - February 16, 2010 - Report this comment
Thanks, Mark - I was trying to keep the spript intact at the expense of proper pacing, but I had to rearrange it just the same. It goes so well with the original song. By the way, I would like to hear an actress playing the part to end this with a rasberry and say, "In a pig's eye!".

Very clever write, Lord 2Ease . . . My congrats to you dear Duke 0Shake ! . . . my fav scene is when (LadyLiz)Katherine & PetRuccio fall into a sea of feathers! ! : falling in love/lust, perhaps. my lord ? ? As Katherine is my Baptismal name, I could indeed play her, if only to be matched CowboyDave as the Pet oPadua, eh ? ? Oh, how I love th sound of the strong Voice & the mighty Arms of My Lord & Keeper . . .

Thanks, Lady - Different strokes for different folks. I'm glad that rings your chimes. Katherine of Aragon, first wife of King Henry VIII?
