The Lyrics

You ain't nothin' but a pound dog,
Humpin' on my leg,
You ain't nothin' but a pound dog,
Humpin' on my leg,
Got a real bad nasty habit
And you're lazy as an egg..

Well, they said you were house broke,
And not a messy risk
Yeah, they said you were house broke
And not a messy risk
Said you always go on papers,
And you do right on my desk...

You ain't nothin' but a pound dog
Got no pedigree pro-line
You ain't nothin' but a pound dog
Just a mutt, a mix a' nine
And if you ever saw a rabbit,
Prob'lly jump in my arms, cry'n..

Someone dumped you like low trash
For them, you didn't fly
They just dumped you like low trash
And bid you no goodbye
Havin' you around's a habit
No more lonesome in your eye...

You ain't nothin' but a pound dog,
With no pedigree blood line
You ain't nothin' but a pound dog,
Whine for handouts when we dine
But when you lick and greet me,
After work, I'm glad you're mine..

Yeah, when you lick and greet me,
After work, I'm glad you're mine..

Was wondering how you were going to end this one, and the ending's perfect. Always been a cat person myself, but recently the wife and I adopted a rescue poodle. Frankly, I've yet to own a cat that rushes to door to greet you after a long day. Or maybe I've always owned the wrong cats...

Thanks, Warren...when I checked "Search" in the archives, I was surprised no one had used the title, yet...I'm not a cat fancier myself, but I don't begrudge those who are..

As a terrier owner(LuLu) I really enjoyed this one, Sir L'Air de Farce, Mighty Duke oEdge! CowboyDave, rabid horseman that he was, adored his orange kitty, Ginger. Now every evening she would emerge from out of nowhere to greet him, only him! As dinner was being made, he would relax w/his TeQuila, stroking GingerDearest . . .

Thanks, NorCal....Oh, you own one of those religious dogs...a holy terrier.....I would have never thought of Cowboy Dave being a cat fancier...You may have recalled from some of my past parodies, that I am not!...neighbor's cats tinkle all over my house and yard...that's the gripe I have with cats, they mark everybody elses territory as their own...walk on my car...peek in my second floor window, etc. etc...Where as, my dog, Sniffy is well disciplined. never leaves the house.

that is what was soooo contradictory about CowBoy Dave . . . as Big & boisterous as he was, taming stud horse & chasing Angus bulls, to view his relaxing w/Ginger Dearest. But when his 'ciGar' came out . . . she jumped away, Sir L'Air de Avarice!
