WHEN OUR SON WAS BORN

I have a tale that I have to tell.
The day our lives turned to living hell.
It was five o’clock, just before the dawn,
All hell broke loose, when our son was born.

My wife and I, heads were in a whirl;
We both had hoped it would be a girl.
But our hopes were dashed in that early morn,
We both broke down, when our son was born.

We now regret turning down a scan.
We were so sure, even had a plan
For a Wendy house built on our back lawn.
But it fell down, when our son was born.

It should not have happened;
We have four sons already!
Hoping for a girl:
Dark, fair, brunette, don’t care what.
But a girl who would bring joy, unlike her four brothers;
Make us smile, show us love.
Our hopes are dashed, and one thing’s for certain:
No plans for more children; we’ll bring down the curtain.

We had a dream, but our dream was blown.
Our hopes were high, but those hopes have flown.
It’s a crying shame, we were both forlorn,
That fateful day, when our son was born.
