Jester play: the clowns come out; we guffaw;
Saw a man that flies, and very far.
Fearful that this guy will fall and hit saw-
dust—cheerful when he grabbed onto that bar.

It’s the season for the clowns in town,
Dancing neighing ponies prance up and down,
There’s candy, and it’s caramel—sublime!
We can return every year at the time,
It’s just the same,
When there’s clowns in town—no frowns;
It’s the circus game.

As a child to hie there was so pleasin’,
Made me realize one of my dreams:
To eat ice cream so cold that it’s freezin’;
This fodder’s superior to iced breams.

Sixteen teams of pachyderms arrive now,
Cartwheels turn acrobats in the round,
The ringmaster speaks, it comes alive now
With his tails and tophat and baritone sound.

In the three-ring, things go round and round:
Dancing neighing ponies prance up and down,

Cotton candy’s spun, and I’m enjoying plenty;
’round it streams and comes out pink or maybe blue.
Dad says, “Bring the change back from this twenty—
And while you’re buying, why not make it two?”

We would eat it, then we’d clown around.
Like dancing ponies, we’d prance up and down.
Can’t capture all the passages of time.
Some can’t return, but they are not left behind. . .
With us all the same.
In my town, not down, no frowns when the circus came.
