Song Parodies -> "Little Harrows"

Original Song Title:

"Little Arrows"

Original Performer:

Leapy Lee

Parody Song Title:

"Little Harrows"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

Need some soy? A little soy?
So bring harrows out, yes do!
And start reaming out the farmland
After plows have broke it new
Row of three? Or row of two?
These tines so swell make more than six!
So do tour it roun' the meadow
But avoid those little creeks

Throw some dung, scoring rows because you've
Little harrows to dig and to groove
You're tilling in loam again
Tilling in loam again

Little harrows are imposing
Little harrows bear such flare
When you have earth you'll need
Those little harrows everywhere
Little harrows - implements that slice
And ditch and dice demesne
Little harrows fragment every cloddy
Lets you sow the grain!

(Sow sow sow the grain)

Oxen dun, or some are pied
To dig and delve and root, they do
Must shoo chooks out the pasture
Lest the harrows mow them through
You must see there's no mishap
Ill-fated toes and feet are risks
Still you love those little harrows
When they whirl their little discs

Wear some worn overalls that are blue
Hitch the harrows to beasts that do moo
You're tilling in loam again
Tilling in loam again

Little harrows numbers growing
Little harrows plowed in pairs
When viewed above you'll spy
There's little harrows everywhere
Little harrows that will split the grass
On it, our crops depend
Little harrows that are neat, not shoddy
Every plowman's zen!

When you're done, pour a re-freshing brew
Made from harrow-ish barley that grew
You're tilling in loam again
Tilling in loam again

Little harrows that are probing
Little harrows, soils a-bare
So work those hoes, then hose
Those rows of harrows over there
Little harrows dug from back to front
Emits at once, a calm
Little harrows render agriculture
Plenty avant-farme!

(repeat and fade)

DKTOS, but this is well planted and tended, and I have a soft spot for farming parodies. 5s, with extra credit for "demesne."

Thanks for your comments everyone! John, I was determined to work 'demesne' in there. And I was especially proud of calling on my PA ancestry to rhyme 'creeks' with 'six'.... ;-D

I bought a CD just because it had the OS song on it. Finally got around to listening to it today! Good jobs guys

Some clever lines and turns of phrase here to milk humor from a theme which is by its nature thin on the ground for laughs: 'beasts that do moo' was my fave. 'Shoo the chooks' would have to be Pippin's? You followed the OS phonetics very closely. This harrowing experience (groan) is a huge improvement on the mindless original. Another row of 5s is in ordure.

Lifeliver: Thanks for your feedback :) Re: "Shoo chooks" - you would have THOUGHT so wouldn't you? I just checked - we colour-code each of our contributions om a shared document - and it was Merry's! Haven't I trained her well? :)

Peregrin: I hope you haven't got her saying 'Would you like a bikkie/chippie?' and 'Tah', and 'Ye-e- es', well this is roit!'

No, none of those, but I have edified her in the use of the important words 'Hooning', 'Dunny' and 'Yonks'. When I visited in 2006, I was trying to teach her partner an Aussie method of dealing with traffic stress, that being, to yell at the other driver something along the lines of them being a f***ing ar**hole.

Not actually at them, or out loud, mind you, in LA you were just as likely to get your head blown off for doing so. Just from the safety of your own vehicle with the windows rolled up. Anyway, you know what it's like with that expression, you really have to get loud and stress and stretch the first syllable of the second word. He couldn't do it! A cultural step too far, it was!

He ended up saying "You fooking orrrrshole" in a style that sounded like Prince Charles trying to do a Kiwi accent. I still laugh when I think about it. I had him practice - by the time I left 4 weeks later he was no better, sorry to say. And to think, it was his big chance to onboard some classic Aussie KULCHA ;)

@Pippin: Ah, well, you know...you can't teach an old Canajian new tricks...

Yep. As you demonstrated in comment above, in the words of Sir Leslie Colin Patterson, we've got kulcha in Australia up to our a***holes. Would you believe it, my security code is DAG!!!

I recall another Little Arrows parody, Little Carrots but an exhaustive search on the internet has yielded nothing. Some lyrics.. Little carrots in your clothing little carrots in your hair, when you've been sick you'll find those little carrots everywhere,....and.. Was the best Chinese restaurant in the land, they were famed for their Rats Maryland... Any info on the song and or artist would be appreciated..Thank you..
