Song Parodies -> "'Garden' Party"

Original Song Title:

"It's My Party"

Original Performer:

Leslie Gore

Parody Song Title:

"'Garden' Party"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

A fanciful musing on Hieronymus Bosch's triptych "The Garden of Earthly Delights." If you haven't seen it, this will make no sense. It might not anyway. (Low-res version here: http://www.penwith.co.uk/artofeurope/bosch_garden_earthly_delights.jpg) The parody's also based on the joke about the wealthy matron who hired a famous artist to paint murals in her master bedroom during her weeks-long trip to Europe. She returned to see on one wall a painting of Christ observing, on the facing wall, an Indian orgy, and she promptly passed out. When she regained consciousness, she demanded an explanation of the apparent blasphemy. The painter explained that his work, entitled "Custer's Last Stand," was allegorical and needed to be understood in a symbolic context. She demanded further explanation. He pointed respectively at the two walls and said: "Jesus Christ look at all those f*ckin' Indians!"
It's tripartite, people fryin' and monsters,
Cryin', and monsters, dyin' and monsters.
He could try two for his unhappy crew.

Out of his gourd folks said Bosch he had gone--
Unruly paint, turgid, fly'n'.
The brush he held in his hand
Was tainted with turpentine.

It's tripartite, people fryin' and monsters,
Cryin', and monsters, dyin' and monsters.
He would cry, too, if she happened to sue.

Then all these esters he sniffs every night
Of oil thinner stored in a vial.
Bosch, hallucinatory,
Paints dreamlike scenes, screened at trial.

"Garden" party--people fryin' and monsters,
Cryin' and monsters, dyin' and monsters.
Turpentine fumes, it's like baggin' some glue.

"Sue me!" said Bosch, 'cause his patron abhorred
Potent palette's painting.
"This is no mirth-day surprise!":
Pallid patron, fainting.

Said the party of the first part: "I want ya
Tried, yes I want ya, fined, yes I want ya."
Tort--no court moot.
She slapped him with a suit.

This one had me going nuts until I realized it wasn't a parody of "Garden Party" by Rick Nelson. I suppose a tribute to the works of that hippest of M.C.'s, Escher, is next?

Hey, Michael, I wasn't planning to do Escher, but so far I've sullied Bosh, Dali, and Picasso, and I'm a sucker for a challenge. Maybe a whole series on artists, e.g., "The Wan Duerer," "Whistler's Finest Work," "Monet." Oh dear, I think I may do it.

Sidenote--Do you realize your intro note is as long if not longer than the parody? That said, good job on this one, of course someone who can parody any one song as many times as you did "I Put A Spell On You" and still come up with ideas that work will never have creativity issues. Good Job as Always 555
