The Lyrics

OK... I succumbed and did this song again. A true story. Well, nearly.
Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis
Carpal tunnel sydrome, fading eyesight and arthritis
Now my hands will not keep still, they shake like they're St Vitus
Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis

Twist, fiddle, turn the middle, top, bottom, side
Twist, fiddle, turn the middle, top, bottom, side

I became a Rubic's geek when I was just a lad
So I learned how to twist and tweak, my speed it wasn't bad
I told me kids how good I was, and so the seeds were sown
A present came at Christmas, now they've got one of their own, but

Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis
Got to beat one minute to impress the little blighters
If they don't believe me, I think they are gonna fight us
Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis

Twist, fiddle, turn the middle, top, bottom, side
Twist, fiddle, turn the middle, top, bottom, side

I travelled all around the world and everywhere I went
I'd show my cube and all would say "There goes a clever gent"
But I would never demonstrate, saying it's gone all loose
But now I just feign injury, and this is my excuse:

Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis
I'd love to show you my technique, but fear it might ignite us
Listen and you'll hear me creak: be sure it ain't tinnitus
Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis

You can do it backwards which is soooo much easier
But that's rather like "cheating", don't you think?
..grrrrrr

The doctor called it "Rubik's Wrist", and then to my dismay
Explained how often people see the symptoms the wrong way
Whenever I'm in company, I've come to understand...
..for instance..
...yes...
Why they see me squint then look for warts upon my hand, D'oh!

Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis
Now my social life's in bits and pieces like detritus
And so a quick apology to all you ami-writers
Rubik's cube: it gave me RSI and tendonitis

Good stuff, especially working in the spoken bit about doing it backwards. BTW, you got a shout-out in my recent parody of this song.

The incorporation of some nearly full original lines, i.e...

I travelled all around the world and everywhere I went
I'd show my cube and all would say "There goes a clever gent"

and

You can do it backwards which is soooo much easier
But that's rather like "cheating", don't you think?

...is simply beautiful! All 5s and I figure this would stand a fair chance in any SOTM round. If it's not too much too ask I would like a clarification of the abbreviation RSI though, I get the general idea but I'm not familiar with that one in English. (We probably have one of our own for it so I'm asking in my professional capacity as a medical transcriptionist as well).

Peter - RSI is "Repetetive Strain Injury" - where repeating the same action causes injury. Very often seen in computer operators and Rubik's cube geeks ;-)
...I'm not sure I'd have the cheek to enter this in SOTM, though: it's overdone enough as it is.

Loved it, Phil...especially the last verse. Just when I thought there were no more good ideas left for "Supercal"...:-) 555
