The Lyrics

The Lerner and Loewe musical “My Fair Lady” is based on G.B. Shaw’s play “Pygmalion.” In both, Prof. Henry Higgins attempts to turn “guttersnipe” Eliza Doolittle into a lady and bets his friend Colonel Pickering that he can do it. Eliza’s father hears of the experiment and tries to get in on the action. I’ve just drafted a parody of “MFL,” entitled “Pygment-alien.” Prof. Pedagogue (“Peddy”) Priggins bets Colonel Picturing that he, Priggins, can turn primitive amateur artist A. Lazy Do-Little into a fine artist. Do-Little’s mother tries to get in on the action. Given that I can’t write music, I’ve employed tunes from “MFL” and written new lyrics to them. The order of the 11 songs is indicated in the titles. If you want to see the entire musical, you’ll have to wait till it plays on Broadway.
I’ve got no pull in town;
They all disparage me.
I wish someone here could be found who would encourage me.
I’ve show my stuff to some stuffed shirts, who huff, discourteously:
“So, good? Oh please; it’s ugily!”

All I want is a shake that’s fair
From the fine artists who don’t care
About my work; they blare:
“So, good? It’s not—it’s ugily.”

Hotshots scoff at me when we meet.
I say, “Trolls, you can kiss my beet-
Red butt and then retreat
To do a figure studily!”

“Oh, so ugily—it will absolutely make us ill!”
That’s the nasty song they sing;
I wish they’d take a chill pill.

Straight ahead, my trajectory
I’m not letting them bother me…
Feel like an honoree
When they deem my stuff ugily,
Ugily, ugily, ugily.
