The Lyrics
For the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge, which Our Fearless Appointed Wartime Leader With a Purpose wants to ruin forever for the native caribou -- also called "reindeer" -- and drill for ten years to get six months' worth of oil. In other words, if "successful," the oil will come and go in the sixth year after he is scheduled to leave the Presidency. Which is just one reason why we must not allow him to succeed at this. And, yes, this is based on Sedaka's 1962 original, a Number 1 hit for rock's biggest nerd between the death of Buddy Holly and the arrival of Elvis Costello.

Good parody, even though my views on this differ (although I would agree that 6 months of oil is not worth it). The Alaska pipeline was greeted by the same concerns about caribou. After it was built, their local population increased by a factor of five. That's plenty of reindeer for Santa. BTW, I always liked the early version of the original better than the sappy version N.S. did in the mid 70's.
As I noted in one of my parodies, my sister-in-law's business was destroyed by the Exxon Valdez disaster. Hands off ANWR. Instead, drill Bush's head in an attempt to insert gray matter.
Where solar energy is concerned I agree with you.

Michael, your parody overstates the environmental threat and understates the potential benefit of ANWR. A study prepared by the Clinton administration claims that safe production on just 2,000 acres (or 0.01%) of ANWR will yield more than 1 million barrels of oil a day for more than 30 years. And, as Steve K points out, caribou herds are thriving near the Alaska pipeline and other developmental work done in Alaska. But, this is still a very, very good parody with clever rhyming and a great title. And, yes, it would be nice if there were some development of alternative energy sources (by private enterprise).
