The Nonsensical Lyrics: I hear laughter in the rain,
walking hand in hand with the one I love Why They're Nonsensical: Who's supposed to be laughing out there in the rain? The guy himself and his girl? The village idiot? Someone else out there who happens to be laughing at something? For clarity's sake lyricists, level with us once in a while.

"Breaking Up Is Hard To Do"
The Lyrics: They say that breaking up is hard to do.
Now I know, I know that it's true. Don't say that this is the end. Instead of breaking up I wish that we were making up again. Why: I can't remember a more lilting tune from the 1960s than this one. But the words are a desperate plea to a girlfriend not to dump him. The last line cited above is nearly an admission of the virtual inevitability of the break-up and the desperation of the singer's wishes that things were otherwise. By the way, the singer did an original "fast" version of this and then sometime later a slow "ballad" version (same lyrics both times). What I say here came mainly from thinking about the original "fast' version. But even the slow "ballad" version is not nearly so much of a downer tune-wise as the lyrics could merit.
