Nice job overall, but it eventually became repetitive and started to lose the edge you seemed to be looking for when you came up with the title. By the way, I liked the title. 5-3-4
John Barry - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I'll go with EmiLoca on the votes. Have mixed sentiments about Moore, but I'm really looking forward to "Fahrenheit 911." I'm definitely all for going after public figures.
Your Worst Nightmare - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I've been wondering if I want to see his new movie, just to take notes and then say how wrong he is. But I get mad often when I'm watching something I know isn't true. I figure it is going to focus on Abu-Ghraib a lot and then blame it on Bush.
Your Worst Nightmare - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Has anyone read or heard Michael Moore justify why he can lie about Bush? Freedom of Speech. Sure, he has the right to bash Bush, the same way I have the right to call him a %*$#@, but that does not make him any less a liar. You know on his site, he has a sign with Uncle Sam pointing frontward, asking if you are Unamerican? So unpatriotic.
Your Worst Nightmare - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
And another thing: Michael Moore is RICH. One of the many misguided aspects of liberalism is that rich people are evil and should be taxed to death. Well, Michael Moore is probably evil, but I don't think it has anything to do with being rich.
MrMacphisto - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Decent parody.... I totally disagree with it, but I can't put someone down for a difference of opinion.... As for YWN, please lay off the same demonization of liberalism. It gets old after a while, and being only 13, you still have a lot to learn. Trust me....
Your Worst Nightmare - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
LOL, but probably not as much as Michael Moore does.
Ethan - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
#1 - last i heard Michael Moore lost a lot of weight since Bowling for Columbine #2 - If all liberals hated rich people then there wouldn't be so many rich liberals, would there? #3 - i second what mr. macphisto said
... - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
He has the right to 'demonize' liberalism if he wants. He may be 13 and have a long road ahead of him, but he's got something to say about his beliefs. Even if you disagree with him, you've got to admit he's pretty gutsy for tossing his hat into the ring with a bunch of supposedly 'smarter' adults.
mac - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
EmiLoca, thanks, but do you think it's fair to criticize a parody of a repetitive song for being repetitive? John, I haveh't seen "911". Who know, it may be a great film. But I do know that "Columbine" is one of the slickest, lowest, most harmful pieces of propaganda ever put on film. Nightmare, you are correct. Moore is a liar, and an anti-patriot. Not that he lies about everything, but he does mix a certain amout of half truths and outright lies into his work. The man is talented, but obviously twisted. A good shrink would have a field day with him. Phist, I appreciate your comments as usual. People who vote ones for parodies on ideological grounds get about as much respect from me as Moore. I have bashed Bush and the Republicans just about as much I have the Dems on this site. It's all in fun, and I think the results should be judged on their technical merits more than on the opinions expressed.
EmiLoca - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
You do have a point. I probably shouldn't have voted SO low. Something to consider, though, is the work you could have put into perhaps merging a few verses so that the repetition would be less prominent. I mean, if someone can do it for a parody as difficult as Supercalifrag...whatever...do you get what I'm saying? That would definitely score you bonus points as far as overall score.
mac - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Well EmiLoca, if we're going to compare everyone's stuff to Spaff's, then very few songs will ever rate higher than 2 or 3. He is is a class by himself. I appreciate the input though.
EmiLoca - June 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Hey hey! I'm not just talking about Spaff here. I certainly didn't mean to demean your work by comparing it to Spaff's (true, nothing can compare to Spaff) or anyone's. Just comparing it to the general idea of not being repetitive in a difficult song - which others have done. Okay, sorry, I'm making no sense and I'll stop posting comments here. But again, I like the title. ;-)

EmiLoca, I think that, given time, you will come to recognize my genius, and begin giving all my songs automatic 5s. :-) Seriously though, I do appreciate your constructive criticism. Keep it coming.

I am not a big Michael Moore fan, but this parody crosses the line between criticism and bashing. Michael Moore is revered by the Left as Rush Limbaugh is worshipped from the Right. Let these goons fight it out until they're both six feet under. But mac, please don't fall to their level. And about the song, I agree with some of your sentiments, but the whole song technically is so-so. Sorry.
MrMacphisto - June 20, 2004 - Report this comment
This message goes to the first ellipsis.... You can talk about someone being gutsy once you actually post your name on this thread. Then, you might have a point.....
Your Worst Nightmare - June 21, 2004 - Report this comment
Well, Michael Moore is very talented with fiction. And MrMacPhisto, I don't post my name on the Net for safety reasons, you know, so I won't be stalked. Okay, I know that probably wouldn't happen, but it's a rule with my parents.
Your Worst Nightmare - June 21, 2004 - Report this comment
By the way, mac, I have criticized Bush too, although not nearly as much as Moore. I criticize him for things like the Patriot Act, where places are bugged and people are being watched. They might find terrorists, but I think it is a privacy invasion. "Hello, good afternoon! Say, wouldn't you agree that Bush is the greatest president of all time?" "Oh, er, of COURSE I would! I also think that today is certainly a good day for every terrorist, which I am not, in this town to be brought to justice. Did I mention I'm not a terrorist?" It's like Big Brother. But despite that, he is a good president. I noticed you also said you bashed republicans. Do you mean particular republicans or republicans in general? If you meant reps in general, what party are you?

I caught my name in the comments and just wanna say that while I agree that changing choruses (even when the original repeats them) generally makes for a livelier read, I disagree with that "compared to Spaff" stuff. There is a very impressive array of talent at this site, and I'm just happy to participate.

Now, in REAL LIFE, on the other hand, I am, in fact, in a league of my own. It's called the League of Extraordinary Genitals.

Nightmare, my politics are a bit odd, ranging from paleo-con (rightwing), to moderate lefty. I guess what I aim for is to be a solid realist, who doesn't forget about ethics and compassion. Moore earns my contempt by being an ideologue. He is talented, a good writer and film maker, and he is right about some things, but he cares far more about his ideology than he does the truth. He is willing to ignore reality if that suits his agenda. Bush, the 2000 candidate, the compassionate conservative, I could definately have lived with. But Bush post 9-11 has given himself over to the loonies Likudnicks. He has wasted American lives, treasure and the good will of allies on the illconcieved neo-con nation building, and region transforming agenda. People like Wolfowitz and Pearl would have us waging an "unending war" against the Islamists. I want no part of that. Get OBL, and go after any terrorists who attack America, but give up the crazy notion that we can change Middle East countries into peaceful democracies by millitary force.
mac - June 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Spaff, you are too humble. There are people here who occasionally reach your level, but only occasionally. Your recent Madonna song should be blaring from the car speakers of every morning commuter in the English speaking world right now. Who wouldn't get a chuckle out of it? It seems like you should already be a famous man. Like the Piano Man's patrons said, "Man, what are you doing here?".
Your Worst Nightmare - June 22, 2004 - Report this comment
So, mac, I'm guessing you are registered as Independent, am I right? I think Bush is going overboard on the War On Terror, not that I would take it lightly, as many liberals do, but all those things he made like Homeland Security, Patriot Act, etc., I don't approve of. I don't think we're using military force to create a peaceful democracy. We're giving Iraq government total sovereignty in 8 days. American troops aren't forcing people to do anything, but they are helping with some terrorists. As for "Islamists", muslims would be the correct word. Our country isn't against muslims, it is against terrorists, many who happen to be muslims. And yes, one could call it a neverending war. I'm not sure we'll ever be able to destroy all the terrorists in the world, but if we ever do, that would be the end of it.
mac - June 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Nightmare, "Islamist" is a word used to describe Muslims who use the religion as a political tool, especially those who want to create Islamic governments, and institute sharia.
Your Worst Nightmare - June 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Oh, I haven't heard of the word before. Sorry for sounding like a know-it-all when I said that. I don't know about Islamists. It doesn't like a threat to the US to me.

I was all Republican when I was 13 too. It was a youthful indiscretion. But the truths Moore tells are no less true just because he, at best, gets some other facts wrong. Having said that, I'm still mad at him for supporting Nader in 2000. If he hadn't, he might now have very little to complain about.

Heh. I'm ringing up the 1s with this one... more evidence of the intolerance that ironically infests the "progressive movement'". As right as people like Michael Moore, Howard Dean and even Noam Chomsky are about some things, and as wrong as Bush is about many things, it's hard to stomach the thought of "progressives" being in charge.
Phil Alexander - June 28, 2004 - Report this comment
mac, it's not just the "progressive movement" (which sounds more like a constipation cure) that shows intolerance - lots of excellent songs get hit with 1s purely because they suggest that the Republican presidency isn't quite the beacon of excellence some of its supporters consider it to be.

That's true, Phil... no doubt about it.
