The Lyrics

This is an ode to the commercialization of Halloween.By the way, I never understood Puff the Magic Dragon. If Jackie outgrew him why did Puff slip into his cave forever? He could have found another friend. Anyway, here is a more up to date and more cheerful parody of this song.
Sparky the Great Pumpkin flew through the air,
And rose up from the pumpkin patch to children everywhere.
All the other Peanuts didn't have a clue-
But little Linus Feldman was the only kid who knew -
that -
Sparky the Great Pumpkin flew through the air,
And rose up from the pumpkin patch to children everywhere -
Sparky the Great Pumpkin flew through the air,
And rose up from the pumpkin patch to children everywhere!

In the pumpkin patch, 'neath the old oak tree -
Sally Braunstein sat with Linus waiting patiently.
The Peanuts kids would party and raise a hull'baloo -
But Sally sat 'neath the old oak tree with her sweet babboo.

Sparky the Great Pumpkin flew through the air,
And rose up fron the pumpkin patch to children everywhere -
Sparky the Great Pumpkin flew through the air,
And rose up from the pumpkin patch to children everywhere!

Tradition lives forever - little boys become old men,
Linus waited for the pumpkin time and time again.
The Peanuts called him blockhead, his mind a purple haze,
Everybody thought that he was going through a phase.
Well, the joke was on the Peanuts - word spread through the town,
Then Sparky's reputation became round the world renown.
Linus married Sally and raised a family -
Now, his grandchildren wait for Sparky 'neath the old oak tree!

Sparky the Great Pumpkin flies through the air,
And rises from the pumpkin patch to children everywhere -
Sparky the Great Pumpkin flies through the air,
And rises from the pumpkin patch to children everywhere!

Oh, good grief!

I enjoyed it for what it was. I was thinking of giving a 4 for humor, but in this crazy world, Peanuts knowledge must be rewarded. 5's

Just make sure it's the Great Pumpkin, and not the World War 1 Flying Ace, a.k.a. Snoopy, that you see rising from the pumpkin patch. Thanks for giving Sally and Linus a happy ending.

I, like 2nz, was impressed with your Peanuts knowledge...5s! Was the Great Pumpkin really named Sparky?

Sparky is a nickname for Charles Schulz.

2Eagle: I think you did a good job writing this parody; whether a person's a Peanuts fan or not; as for your question about Puff and Jackie, well, have you watched the movie "Meet the Parents" with Robert DeNiro? There's a funny scene where he discusses his view of Puff the Magic Dragon with his future son in law. So you're not the only one who has raised questions about the song.

2Eagle: there's going to be a fragment of "Puff" posted tomorrow, Aug. 20, I think; I wrote it and though there was no place for me to say it, it's dedicated to you. Just look at the Song Fragments section.

Yes, there is something eternal about that comic strip, and this parody captures it well (and somehow it took me 3 years to find).
