The Lyrics

When Australia comes up in a politicial discussion, usually some dissident celebrity is threatening to move there if a certain candidate wins an election. I just make up a parody to one of Australia's most famous songs.

(Wobble board and guitar intro)

(Narration) There's a young Chicago politician in the White House - flailing, failing. He finishes another TV appearance, turns to his czars who have gathered around him, and says:

(Song) Let's take over G.M., Lem - let's take over G.M.
We know better than them, Lem - let's take over G.M. (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
Run it into the ground, Sport - Tie America Down

Let's ram through "cap and trade," Slade - Let's ram through "cap and trade"
Big tax bucks to be made, Slade - Let's ram through "cap and trade" (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
Show who's running this town, Sport - Tie America down

Let's take over health care, Jer - let's take over health care
Push it through with a scare, Jer - let's take over health care (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
In the deficit drown, Sport - Tie America Down

Help me silence Fox News, Hughes - help me silence Fox News
They have dangerous views, Hughes - help me silence Fox News (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
I am not Gordon Brown, Sport - Tie America Down

Give them nukes in Iran, Stan - give them nukes in Iran
They have no evil plan, Stan - give them nukes in Iran (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
Israel must be bound, Sport - Tie America Down

(Slower) Deficits of three trill, Bill - deficits of three trill
Big government is a thrill, Bill - deficits of three trill (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
It's the best way I've found, Sport - Tie America Down

(Slowly and mournfully) Get elected again, Ben - stay up in twenty-ten
(Pause, then another voice) But without ACORN's dirty tricks, Dick - they'll be no "landslide" again! (All together now!)

Tie America Down, Sport - Tie America Down
Run it into the ground, Sport - Tie America Down
G'day, mates! ;D

Ever so clever!

Captures the feel of the original song, which as I recall, was about a dying Australian. Now we stand by and watch a great nation die.

Nice to hear this old song come back - with a parody that fits well. Love the wobble board.

Wow - This stings like A Corn in my side. Consider this a virtue that it is so politically incorrect from a liberal's point of view. I think most Americans are a lot like sheep. I had my life (by choice) regulated for over 21 years serving my country. Regulation and control is proper and necessary in a military environment. I think if more people had a taste of military life they would not be so "enlightened". I call it "Infrightened". At least when I was in the military I knew that I would at sometime return to civilian life and once again enjoy some basic rights that are denied to you when you are in the military. Now I feel like those basic rights are being infringed upon and I do not feel comfortable with that. This parody is spot on and needed to be published. I surely hope that the 2010 elections will show three not two equal candidates on the legislative tickets. The founding fathers never intended legislators to make 40 year careers from elected office. Too bad the legislators do not have term limits. Serving in Congress was intended to be something like jury duty where Joe citizen would take a turn at law making and then move on. The problem is that only congress can impose term limits on legislators and who is going to vote down their meal ticket? Great write OMR. This comment may start a sh*t storm on this page but I won't debate with anyone in this forum. I've ssid what I've felt and thanks for writing this.

Thank you AFW. Perhaps I'm not so doctrinaire as I appear. I appreciate that you can still judge me on technical merit. You area true gentleman...and, by the way, your stuff is consistently high quality and above all FUNNY! ;D And thanks, Guy.

Patrick is right about the OS: Stand astride when it's dead, Fred. Stand astride when it's dead. So we stood aside while it died, Clyde, too scared, to be hanged in fear and dread. Don't let that happen -- hang together now! Vote 555 times for "The Ribber" (without ACORN's help).

Jolly good job, Mate! Loved the original, and love this one too. Apropos of Australia: I have a friend -- retired Australian Navy -- who had settled down in Minnesota, planning to stay. This month he and his wife just moved back to Australia. Can't say as I blame them -- almost wish I could go with them, in fact (except that their gun laws are worse than ours -- so far).

Well written parody but it must said that the very day GM filed for bankruptcy the CEO was in China licking their chickens to get a GM plant established there. Mr. Obama was right to grant a bailout with the condition that the CEO leaves. After all, his mismanagement led to GM's tumble and near collapse, so why should Obama or any Prez dole out $B+ to a corporation led by a stupid irresponsible cretin whose slip-ups led to pensions going to waste and $Ms lost. UnKnownVotress - about America getting tied down to the back of a tin Toyota, basically I'd agree with you but Toyota itself has had so many recalls up the yin-yang for the past number of years, they'd better watch their step as well. Difference is that Toyota isn't part of a Big 3, but part of MANY in Japan. Nevertheless they need to get their crap together too. Happy Holidays, Everyone!
