The Lyrics

As Swine Flu continues to rage, A-Hole returns to action this week and our yearly postage stamp increase to $.44 is May, 11, 2009. I needed to commemorate all these sad events.
Are you planning on buying some stamps
May Eleventh, Two-Thousand and Nine?
Wielding guns these government tramps
Choose Email, let’s pay bills online.

Are you watching A-Rod play today?
Empty seats that no one can buy.
This cheater’s path to youngsters convey
Steroids made this superstar fly.

Are you sickened by pig sty disease
With the runs, vomit and the chills?
Chaos rules to hear someone sneeze
We shall see how many it kills.

Ain’t it lovely to live in the States?
Postal rates, Rodriguez and Swine.
We live and die in our dire straits
This once was a proud land of mine.

Are you planning on buying some stamps
May Eleventh, Two-Thousand and Nine?
Wielding guns these government tramps
Choose Email, let’s pay bills online.

retained the melancholy of the OS well

Great title switch and parody!!! - I've got four of those 42 cent stamps left over that I stupidly bought from a post office vending machine that didn't offer forever stamps! - 555!!!

This is well paced, though kind of depressing. ; ) Just kidding...I smiled throughout...the swine flu stanza was my favorite.

Wonderful take on Postal Rates, Rodriguez and Swine. Liked the line about playing in an empty stadium where no one could afford the tickets. This once was a proud country of mine. And not every problem is necessarily some politician's fault.

What a lousy situation! But, hey, great use of the song title. This situation matches the OS tune as well. I hope you don't mind if I scar you with 3 sets of 5's!

Great topical parody, Jim! Perfect pacing and choice of song as well. It's "stamped" with my approval. Here's 555 dollars to buy a batch...

Thank you all, much appreciated. Had the line "Postal Rates, Rodriguez and Swine" weeks ago and finally built around it without repeating, posted on YouTube today.

Nice job on current topics - can you put one in every day, so I can give up my newspaper - and then buy some stamps?

What Alvin said - & good title sub

"Postal Rates, Rodriguez and Swine" I echo Patrick's praise for this line. You've captured the mood of the times perfectly while keeping the moody message of the OS.

Parry staged, un-cheery, here's fives.

Thanks Timmy, John, Andy, Guy. No sooner than this dust settles, Manny the Bum surfaces for the next batch of parodies. Well, gives us something to do.
