The Lyrics

Because a great way to become the frontrunner in a Republican primary is to propose a radical new economic plan that amounts to a massive tax hike for the vast majority of Americans. Yeah, I'm confused too.
I am just a poor boy
Though my vote is up for grabs
I won't squander my insistence
On a pocket full of spoilers
Such are third part-ies

But Dems and Reps
Increasingly, they seem to be
Not very diff-e-rent, no no no

Herman Cain came from a family
In the segregated South
They had separate water fountains
Separate platforms at the railway station, who knows why?
Then he went,
"I'm not angry at this country"
While he ran for president
For a while, the Tea Party thought that he was heavensent

9-9-9
9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9
9-9-9
9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9

Asking only workman's wages
I went looking for a job
But I got no offers
Just some jeering from that Herman, saying "Blame yourself"
I do declare, he has a brain, but this man's heart is
I-have-no-idea-where
Whoa whoa whoa

9-9-9
9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9
9-9-9
9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9

Now he's laying out his campaign signs
And wishing it could start
Right away
'Fore Santorum steals his thunder, thus defeating him, bleeding him
Right away

In the kitchen sits a pizza
With a lot of cheese on top
And it carries all the toppings
Of the latest flavor of the month who'll shine until they tire of
All his gimmicks and his gaffes
Then his polls will take a beating and the Democrats will laugh

9-9-9
9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9
9-9-9
9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9

Very appropriate that a parody of a song written by Paul Simon was written today, because today just happens to be Paul Simon's 70th birthday. Seriously, it is! He was born on October 13, 1941.

Very clever 9-9-9 substitution (and others). The observation that Republicans and Democrats are not so different is astute, but I am deducting a point for your criticizing Cain's heart and suggesting that his campaign contains gimmicks.

I wish I knew more about Cain. I like what I've heard so far, but the key to saving this country is to abolish the income tax. Not only is it too complicated, it's too high. According to Ken Burn's documentary on Prohibition, prior to WWI, the Federal Government took in over half its revenue from excise taxes on alcohol. I suspect tobacco taxes supplied a large portion of the balance. We were a freer country then, too.

@ HOF: IDNKTOS (I must admit) but clearly you did fine work on a toughie. I ditto JJ on your criticism of the man and his plan, though.
@ Patrick: Want more about Cain? Look for my parody today (I hope). I'm working on another about the 9-9-9 tax; maybe available tomorrow.
