The Lyrics

The recent events have motivated me to write a more serious parody than the one I did 10 years ago with the same title.
THE ROUND OF VIOLENCE

Hello children, the next Gen
The Senate's let you down again
That Mitch McConnell says "Nothing shall pass"
Because the NRA is up his ass
So no vision, and no morals and no brain
Just remains
From all the rounds of violence

In every schoolyard there are drills
To work on duck and cover skills
Wreaths that decorate where someone fell
The names and faces friends all knew quite well
And forever changed by the flash of another gun
It's time to run
Another round of violence

And on the morning news I saw
A throng of marchers at the door
Parents understandably freaking
Students on the floor and not sleeping
People getting arms with voices in their head
Now someone's dead
Because of rounds of violence

"Schools" they say, should fight themselves
Buy the weapons on the shelves
Learn to shoot, Your skills should be strong
Take up arms, what could ever go wrong?
But the schools, continue to be Hell
And littered with the shells, of violence

So the citizens get sprayed
By the military grade
And the States just keep on farming
God will save you from any harming
And the Judge says; "The words of the founders are written in a tiny clause"
And Federal laws
Get ready for more rounds of violence......

There was a time when any politically relevant parody would have attracted a flurry of comments. Why has no one posted here. This is exceedingly well written and paced. Most everyone who has followed my parodies over the years knows that I believe in the right to own guns. I am appalled at school shootings. These did not happen in my day. Guns were as available then as they are now. Something in the culture has changed, and for the worse. And government has aided and abetted this decline, making it an unlikely candidate for finding a solution. The Kansas City, Kansas Public School system has formed its own police department. The Junior College and the University Medical Center already had their own forces years ago. My old Catholic high school has an armed "resource officer" on duty. States are passing "Red Flag" laws to take guns away from people deemed to be dangerous or mentally ill. Most people who are mentally disturbed don't believe there is anything wrong with them Cops showing up to take their guns might just be the "trigger" for another act of violence. There are an estimated 300 million guns in the country, a figure I think may be low. 100 year old guns are quite common. The ones made today are more durable and have better springs and heat treating. They can last for centuries. It's a difficult problem Remember too, that a lot of the people who own guns consider them an essential part of their identity and will consider any move to take them an act of aggression. Notice that Pelosi, Schumer and the like are not planning to be in the first rank of any collection party.

Because Patrick, the lowest-common-denominator-followers of the public relam doesn't want to learn new things.

Well done Rick. This song actually makes me jealous of my own song on the same subject matter. I really couldn't give this a 5 for funny since it deals with a serious issue.

In cases like this, Arch, you need to recast the second category as "how well does the author convey the emotion that he's trying to convey (In this case, outrage) And, of course Rick did that very well, so best to give it a 5 ... Ninety five percent of the time we're trying to do humor. But you can use this skill for other purposes -- with great effect

Ok CML. I re-voted. But I better see the song I submitted on Saturday to be up tomorrow.
