The Lyrics
Hello science my old friend, I've come to talk to you again.
For the religion softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And their vision will surely numb our brains,
and remain, if we persist in silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone through narrow lines of sacred tomes.
Beneath the halo of an altar lamp,
I turned from faith onto the exit ramp.
And my rights were stabbed by the Religous Right,
And their acolytes silenced the words of science.
And in the naked light I saw ten thousand people maybe more.
People talking without thinking,
People hearing without listening.
People censoring books so ideas can't be shared,
No one dared to look into the science.
"Fools," said I, "you do not know, darkness like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Expand your mind that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
Condemned to hell are those who heed the science.
And the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming, and the sign said:
"The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
and on school halls," and silenced the words of science.
