Love of country had ceased.

She laughs retroactively, now appalled
That she had thought this way.
Once she got it right,
It’s a large mea culpa she’d say.

They’d pulled a fire drill
In the theater, going
Out as the crowd cleared
Them a path, and sore,
The feckless gents messed
Up, bound to be doin’
Time—the curtain tore.
