"House with the Rising Damp"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

There is a house in Bethnal Green
And it's got rising damp
It's been the ruin of many a poor buyer
And I would rather camp

There's mildew on the curtains
The toilet looks obscene
You can even wring the brickwork out
Down in Bethnal Green

The plaster peels, the carpet rots
And damp-course is there none
And when it rains, up from the drains
Raw sewage it will come

So agents, tell your purchaser's
It splashes when you stamp
They'll spend their lives wet and watery
In the house with the rising damp

Well I've got one foot on the platform
The other's already wet
I'm getting out of Bethnal Green
As fast as I can get

There is a house in Bethnal Green
And it's got rising damp
It's been the ruin of many a poor buyer
And I shall now decamp

I read these lyrics about 10 years ago, and, being from Australia, Bethnal Green meant nothing to me. Now, by complete coincidence, I went to visit London, and just happen to be staying in Bethnal Green. I wondered where I heard that name before, and found myself returning to this parody song. It really is a unique neighbourhood; expensive luxury cars parked outside run-down flats. Now it all makes sense!

Hi Ollie.. such odd coincidences life throws up sometimes. And rereading this for the first time in a decade, I see some hideous apostrophe abuse.. I am really annoyed with old me :-)
