The Lyrics

Among the many things in life that are just no damn good for you...
I was down and I was bored
Then this guy gave me some speed
And it kept me up all night
It was powerful stuff, indeed
In the morning came the sun
As it rose we smoked some weed
Then we sniffed up some more lines
Got as high as one could be

Up all night on crystal methedrine
Crystal methedrine, man it was a scene
All wired up on methamphetamine
Crystal methedrine, it was like a dream

Turned my girlfriend out to whore
“Don’t come back without the bread to score”
I backhand her, anyway

[during brief instrumental break sounds of slapping to brass notes, followed by “Bitch”]

Get real mean on methamphetamine
Get real mean, indeed, “Bitch, bring me some speed”
Act obscene on methamphetamine
Acting out of need, “Get me some damn speed”

{“Dime bag”, I said to the dope man; “Dime bag”, I pled}
{“Need bread ahead; no fronts”, he said}
{“Chop that crank up – use the table”}
{“A line? Sure”}
{“Sniff it, sniff it”}

Now our lives are full of sleaze
Drug addiction’s sure a bad disease
Wonder how it came to be
that I’m strung out on methedrine

I’m strung out on that crystal methedrine
I am in such need, “Get me some”, I plead
Sores and lesions cause me now to bleed
Habit; I must feed – skinny as a reed
Listen to me, these words you should heed
Don’tcha mess with speed; try to stay drug-free
[out to fade]
Stay away from methamphetamine
Hope that you will see
that ain’t what you need…

Had a bit of trouble with the pacing in places but, I thought it was funny. :-) 455

Thanks Rick C & alvin. Rick - I'm a little perplexed that the pacing threw you off. Well, OK, you do have to accentuate a couple words a certain way, such as "powerful" which substitutes for the Beatles "Yellow", which is sung on the OS kind of like "Yell-el-low"...the "ll" in the middle being a held note. I was wondering if anyone would have trouble with that. Again, I sang it out to the OS in an overlay recording and the whole piece matches up just about perfectly. But I appreciate the feedback .

Thanks, malc...I guess that's "Speed Reading", isn't it?

I didn't have a problem singing this, though I'm not intimately familiar with the OS either. Great message and rhymes, Paul. 5s

Pacing seemed fine to me. I use the dash character when I want to stress a syllable or two. It usually does the trick if placed correctly. I lost it when I got to this line:

{“Sniff it, sniff it”}

Brilliant.

Good job of spoofing bad stuff, Paul.

Tried commenting yesterday, just as my wireless decided to disconnect.. I've got a "US Pilots on Methamphetamine" parody to this tune, written after another "friendly fire" incident, but I don't like it very much... this one is much *much* more fun.

RA, Guy, Pat, JJ, Philbo - Thanks! Guy - that's sounds like a good way to emphasize the syllables. The formatting you use in posting a written version really has a big effect on whether folks can place your lyrics over the originals. I still can't see any problem in that area here, but I can see the the issue in the other piece I posted today. I vacillated on how to display that one and finally just went with what I had. For recording my vocal overlays I break lines up into shorter length and often keep the lead word to the next line there in situations where there really is no spacing between those lines in the song. I appreciate the suggestions and compliments, guys.
