"Slick On The Bligh"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

That tanker’s err was so bad
Not sinking, but strayed yeah
That Exxon’s driving was bad
Filled world with dismay

He dropped a slick on the Bligh
He dropped a slick on the Bligh
He dropped a slick on the Bligh
And he don't care

T’was said that Hazelwood be
A-drinking a round yeah
Deluge would cover Bligh Reef
On Prince William Sound

He dropped a slick on the Bligh
He dropped a slick on the Bligh
He dropped a slick on the Bligh
And he don't care

I don't know if went left or went right
But did they zig when
They shoulda zagged then? Could be…
Alluded that the captain was tight
He stopped to clink ice
They oughtta breathalyze he

A million gallons of crude
Was leaking away, yeah
(At to-day’s prices - so rude
In end, we all pay, yeah)

Val-dez dropped a slick on the Bligh
He dropped a slick on the Bligh
To blot a-quatic-y life
Oc’anic scare

I’d like to think their profits took slide
But neither share price
Nor boat did capsize, you see
Ashore that gloop was sprayin’ Klondike
This kinda thick cris-
es - clotted waveletts, goo-ey!

It’s sad, that lubing of sea
Was rather profound, yeah
Instead of blueishy be
Now kinda off-brown

Ah, he plopped a slick on the Bligh
He dropped a slick on the Bligh
No mop’l fix this o’ersight
Within a year

That tanker mis-steered, no thought to beware
No anchor prepared, those wanks unaware
My rancor declared, ice land’s dis-repair

I'll have to forward this to my in-laws, whose aquaculture business was destroyed by the Valdez spill.

Yep - the zig zag bit done it for me as well. And the whole lubin' of sea verse

As clever a parody as usual, but isn't this ancient history? Or did it become topical now that "Alaska" and "oil" are back on top of the news? (Shipping and drilling not being related.) 555 anyway. (At least this swacked pilot wasn't flying a plane!)

This song is amazing. It reminds me of that classic film Mutiny On The Bounty starring Marlon Brando. Aye Aye Captain Bligh! 555 Anchors up.

It made me think of Captain Bligh too ! Loved the 'clotted waveletts' - conjured up a terrific visual - as did the entire piece. Brilliant !
