Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"L'il Mac"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

George Brinton "Little Mac" McClellan (1826-1885) - Commander of the Army of the Potomac during the American Civil War, he was known for his arrogance, his desire to become the next president, and his inability to make the decision to actually lead his army forth into battle, since he was always over-estimating the strength of the enemy... (He is also Merry's 8th cousin, twice removed or something like that... ;-)
Georgie was a man so swavey and deboner
Engineer was, in the past
Georgie left PA to become a West Pointer
Earned himself some Gen'ral brass

L'il Mac
L'il Mac
L'il Mac thought Rebel force too strong
L'il Mac
L'il Mac
L'il Mac numbered them way too wrong
L'il Mac boo-booed! No hope!

Li'l Mac
L'il Mac
Kept army in parades and songs
Li'l Mac
L'il Mac
Stayed back - avoided battle throngs

That's slack, Geo!

"Sweet!" said Pres'dent Lincoln, thought that ol' McClellan
Would upon the South advance
But the Greys of Lee's, ol' Mac he thought outnumb'rin'
Honest Abe then had him canned!

Got Grant!
Got Grant!
Got Grant to finish up the job
Li'l Mac
L'il Mac
His pol'tic aspirations robbed!
Pres lack, McClellan. No throne!

L'il Mac
L'il Mac
L'il Mac was rarely never wrong!
L'il Mac
L'il Mac
L'il Mac he lingered way too long

L'il Mac McClellan
Your country's 'plainin' 'bout you
Bearing the times you losed
Yet you've no regrettas
Get back home, you better

L'il Mac, L'il Mac
The Union said "Thanks, but so long!"
L'il Mac, L'il Mac

Whoa. Nice tangent off my Presidential Parody Project. McClellan is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Trenton, about 30 miles from here. His son George Jr. was Mayor of New York and drove the first subway train, 100 years ago, October 27, 1904. He wasn't as bright as his dad, but at least he won an election, never mind a battle.

Thanks everyone, and Michael, thanks for the extra info on Mac. There was also a rash of male children born in the early 1860s who bore names like 'George McClellan Smith' etc., in honor of the Union's favorite bad General

What is this, "Fantastic, Incredible, Unbelievable Parody Day". I have read so much wonderful, hilarious, hysterical stuff here today. I had stuff to do earlier and only looked at a few, figured I'd come back tonight and see maybe half-a-dozen titles that I knew or looked kinda interesting or fun to me and now I'm still planted in front of my computer laughing my butt off. At the risk of being repetitious - 5's across...
