The Lyrics

It's Thanksgiving Day, 2004 - I post this rather uncharitable parody partly as a sad reminder to all who are healthy, happy and relatively free of life-sucking demons and vices to be thankful for that fact. Some folks are spending this day at a Rescue Mission somewhere in your area, probably getting served what might be their first decent meal in many a day. Whether you think they are to blame for their condition or not we should all try and look upon them as fellow human being who probably could use a little kindness and caring, whatever form it might take...Peace...
Here comes that bum
Down from the slums, Oh, oy-vey
with a pint

Here's the wino, he reeks of booze and also urine
Drunken wino, he drinks his beer and then he leers
He is a bum. He stinks, he's scum, please don't stay
Smells so ripe

Drinkin' Drano, he stumbles and falls on his ass now
Then some Sterno; he pisses on himself right here
He's stinking drunk; smells like a skunk, no, don't stay
Please get lost

Bum, he's scum, please don't come
Dumb, that bum, always numb
That damn bum, where's he from?
Mumbles; trips on his tongue
Scum, that bum, from the slums

That old wino, his breath is gross and he is smelly
Damned old wino, he hangs 'round here and always leers
That damned old bum. That stinking bum, please go 'way
Take a hike

That smelly bum
He stinks of rum
Now I say
Take a hike

A well written parody, Paul...but as you said in your intro, these "bums" are humans who deserve at least a little human kindness. For me, your parody would have been more powerful if there was a redemptive "twist" at the end...but hey, that's just my opinion...well done anyway. 544

Good one, Paul 5's

Stuart/alvin/Kristof/Adagio - Thanks for looking in. Kristof - can't say I really disagree with you...except for pieces about politicians and ideologues of a certain persuasion I usually prefer to put a redemptive twist on this type of tale...as you say, I think this is still a pretty well done piece but to be truthful if I had come up with a clever and meaninful positive twist at the end it would have certainly packed more wallop for Thanksgiving... then I would have left out the front comments and let the work speak for itself...but I didn't see one that worked and I wanted to post it today (Thursday)...perhaps I'll start thinking about a Christmas piece of that sort a bit ahead of time...

Phil, if you're ever in L.A., you're welcome to stumble over to Culver City if you want to look me up...just stand on the street corner at Jefferson & Inglewood Blvd. and call out my name loudly and incoherently - I'll probably be somewhere around there mumbling to myself...

That's a fine way to talk about Our Fearless Appointed Wartime Leader With a Purpose!

Hadn't thought about it that way, Michael, but you have a point...Thanks...
