Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Michael Wrote About The Boat"

Parody Written by:

Patrick McWilliams

The Lyrics

Have I written 29 Fitz's or only 28? I'm lousy at math and can't count. But seeing as this is the Edmund Fitzgerald, the biggest ore freighter on the Great Lakes, and subject of one of the longest songs ever played on Top 40 Radio, you gotta be asking yourself, do you feel lucky, well do you, punk?
Michael wrote about the boat
Ed Fitzgerald
How she failed to stay afloat
He would herald

Pat McWilliams joined in next
In succession
A fleet of songs were mostly "wrecks"
Strange obsession

JAB would stay a "Spell"
En-français-ing
Verse by Rimbaud and Baudelaire
What's he saying?

Hu's on First was not the last
Bells were tolling
Then Susanna joined the cast
Kept things rolling

Old Man Ribber searched the vault
Revelation!
It was all George Bush's fault
News sensation!

Samurai leaped into the fray
His katana
Sliced the Mighty Fitz in two
Sank with honor

Porfle proved that he could be
A Fitz-Wrecker
She was sent beneath the sea
By Popnecker

To Rob Arndt our hats we doff
Worked his magic
Then recalled the Will Gustloff
Lives lost, tragic

Steven Kalafut and more
Ain't forgot 'em
Ship they tried to bring ashore
On the bottom

Let's thank Michael just once more
For beginning
To use a baseball metaphor,
Extra innings

Well this song is not profound
But remember
Anniversary will roll around
This November
I tried to include everyone I could recall. If your name is not included here, know that your contribution to this series is still appreciated. Fantasmagoria was the pseudonym of a friend of mine who suggested the Mr Rogers Theme and gave me some key lines to start the song.

TY also for the mention although the Kriegsmarine and U-boats are more my style. Because of the wrecks though I have written about several of them b/c you asked about them, so I did Gustloff, Andrea Doria, Sultana, Lancastria, and EFG. I still would like to do the Dreadnought and Hitler's yacht Aviso Grille... but am so sick that I might have to quit soon :(

I hate to say this, but I have always HATED "Michael Row the Boat Ashore." I guess when you're 4 years old and it sounds like someone's telling you to take those great big oars and steer the boat all by yourself...
