The Lyrics

This original song is from The Hollies back when Graham Nash was still in the group. I always preferred that version of the band, although they did do some good stuff after he left, too.
Dear Fannie Mae I am writing to say
I don't have the cash for my mortgage today
I need an extension of two or three weeks
Please give me a response 'ay ess ay pee-eee'

Writing a letter, because I'm a debtor
Mortgage is due but no way I can pay
Now they will scold me
Hope they don't hold me
To the terms of my loan

I rushed to buy this
My ignorance was bliss
Until I found out the balloon payment was due
I wish I'd been smarter; this is getting harder
This really hurts, my credit soon will suck

Just read my contract closely
It says I soon will be screwed
When I read between the lines
It's clear enough to see
Missing payments isn't wise
I'll have to pay late fees

Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah, Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah
Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah, Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah
Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah, Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah
Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah, Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah-Wah

They answered strictly, they're going to evict me
It looks like I will be homeless, oy vey!
Police will halt me
And crooks will assault me
It appears that I'm screwed
Now most likely I'm screwed
There's no doubt that I'm screwed

Dear Fannie Mae, now I live on the street
On most days I don't have enough food to eat
I asked for a break but you ignored my plea
You bastards don't care what will become of me-eee

Yes, I do know this lesser know Hollies song, and you did a great job with it. This was one that Graham Nash, rather than Alan Clarke, sang lead on. And I agree with you about the Hollies lineup - they floundered for a bit right after Graham left, but got back on course in the early '70s. I still prefer their 1965-67 material, though, especially "Carrie Ann" and "Look Through Any Window".

This is great! I HATE Fannie Mae - everytime I see one of their sticky-sweet commercials I want to throw something at the TV...

David/Mer/Alvin - thanks - well, it looks like I've found something just about everyone agrees on; Fannie Mae SUCKS!

I don't recall the original song, and it sounds as though I'm lucky! What commercial uses it?
Paul Robinson - March 17, 2004 - Report this comment
Mari D - The SONG isn't used in a commercial. FANNIE MAE (the housing loan program) uses really awful commercials telling you how wonderful they are. The original song comes from, oh...probably around your 1st year of High School (yes, that long ago, hee-hee). "Dear Eloise" was originally released as a single and then later on the 1967 album released in the U.S. as "Dear Eloise/King Midas In Reverse". It's really a pretty good song...The first verse and the repeat of it at the end are at a totally different pace from the middle sections. Well, that's probably more than you wanted to know, but hey, there's no charge....

Paul, doesn't it seem like there are a lot less people voting and commenting lately? Or is it just me? Great job on the song. 5's

Jan, No - I believe you are absolutely correct. I don't know about you but I have had a lot of trouble connecting to the site server for about the last week. I'm haven't been sure if it was MY Internet Access provider, my new PC or this site or a combination. Even when I can connect it takes quite a while to change from one screen to another. In fact it just took me about 5 minutes to get in here, I wasn't sure it I was going to make it. If that's happening to a lot of folks it would probably discourage them from staying on the site too long. There may also be school stuff - like finals, or mid-terms or something, although it's been so long since I was in school I really couldn't say for sure. Anyway, I figure I'll just keep plugging along. When I'm getting nowhere I'll do something else for a while and try later. Anyway, thanks for the vote & comment.

Chuck emailed me that the server trouble is at the Am I Right end.
