The Lyrics

What's the difference between the Rolling Stones and the New York Mets? The Stones manage to defy their age, the Met players just remind you of theirs. Of course, some of them go in the opposite direction: Jose Reyes is 25 going on 12. Say this for Mick and The Boys: Even when they were a band of juvenile delinquents, at least they cared enough to take their craft seriously. (Note: Shea Stadium is on Roosevelt Avenue at 123rd Street in the Flushing Meadow section of Queens, and 99th Street is Corona, one neighborhood and 2 1/2 subway stops over.
I live in an apartment here on 99th Street here in Queens.
And I sit at home looking out the window, imagining a good ball team.
Then in flies a guy who's all dressed up just like a good shortstop.
And says, I've won no Pennants and my team is a total flop!

I said,
"Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Don't remind me of all my regrets
with my Mets, baby!"

The telephone is ringing, I say, "Hi, it's me. Who is it there on the line?"
A voice says, "Hi, hello, how are you?"
"Well, I ain't doing fine."
He says, "It's 3 AM, and Omar just told Willie he's been canned!"
Now, I wanted Randolph outta there
but the way they did it shoulda been banned!

I said,
"Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Don't remind me of all my regrets
with my Mets, baby!"

I was sick and tired, fed up with this
and took the 7 Train out to Shea.
It was so very quiet and peaceful
even though there was a game to play.
I laid myself out, I was so tired and I started to dream.
But the nightmare continues, and the Mets are still making their fans scream!

I said,
"Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Don't remind me of all my regrets
with my Mets, baby!"

"Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Hey! You! Lay off of my Mets!
Don't remind me of all my regrets
with my Mets, baby!"

(repeat 'til fade, as the Mets always do)
I still cannot contain my glee.

I see you and Max Power seem to have parodies based on the same initial occurrence - at least that is, you have worked it into this one! However, yours seems to be slightly better received!

I like the Dodgers better that any of them, but that in itself I have noticed seems to be a source of great amusement!

On Citifield Guess what rhymes with citi? In reference to Manuel's comment made recently though Flushing was pretty fitting

Pretty good stuff. I gave you a break on the pacing because this is a tough song to pace: 5-4-4. I live in Queens, and I wondered if you kept an apartment in Corona on 99th Street, but then I heard the OS mention the "99th floor". Anyway, good job overall.
