Song Parodies -> "Kim Jong IL"

Original Song Title:

"Paint It Black"

Original Performer:

The Rolling Stones

Parody Song Title:

"Kim Jong IL"

Parody Written by:

The Comedian

The Lyrics

There is a dictator whose name is Kim Jong IL
It's understatement to call him mentally ill
Why don't we trust him and call back our spys and spooks?
Because that psycho-nutcase probably has nukes!

If secret agents kidnapped him and brought him back
And locked him in a padded cell that's painted black
They'd hear him scream all night in psychiatric pain
At every demon writhing in his squirming brain

The Chinese know he's nuts - the Russians know it too
The Japanese would like to lock him in a zoo
Bravely all the South Korean citizens stand their ground
They won't be terrorized by any psychotic clown

Hallucinations of gargoyles inside his head
Their rasping voices whisper to him that he's dead
If there's no hope to heal his mental Yin-and-Yang
Let's hope they overthrow that nutcase in Pyongyang

Then peace would come to the peninsula at last
Korean people could come to terms with their past
Then all Koreans would be free to live as one
No more North versus South, no DMZ with guns

Hmm, hmm, hmm,...
They wanna see their freedom, freedom now
In Pyongyang, and in Seol
They wanna see their tears blotted out from their eyes
They wanna see their freedom, freedom, freedom, freedom now
Yeah!

Quick explanation of the pacing of the second half of the third verse - in the original song, the Rolling Stones departed from the 12-beats-per-line pacing of every other line in the song on these two lines. My parody's version of these two lines matches the Stones' pacing for the corresponding two lines in the original song.

This was tremendous!! I'd give you 10's if I could, but ....5's. Loved to sing it aloud.
Johnny D - November 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks Adagio! I think it kind of captures the darkness of the original song.

I generally stay away from political topics myself, but this was well done. I see a real progression in your work.

Thank you very much for your thoughtful commentary, Rick. I also generally stay away from politics in my parodies, but every now and then there's a political-parody-possibility that's too interesting to pass up. Thanks again.

Well done, JD. I think you have Mr. chia head pegged pretty well here.

LOL ! Guy, what an image! I've seen some TV comedian do a whacko impression of Kim Jong - not sure if it was Bobby Lee on MAD TV or Horatio Sanz on Saturday Night Live....whoever it was, it was hilarious! Kim Jong's a clown all right - a potentially dangerous clown that we've got to keep a very, very close eye on.

Johnny, that's why it was such a pleasure to read and sing...it captures the original song. When my 'talent' allows, this is what I like to do, too.

Thanks again, Adagio - it's wonderful to hear that my artistic intent came across so clearly.

I quite liked the use of Yin and Yang.

By the way, congrats for hitting the big 50.....parodies. I know it looks like I zoomed up the numbers chart quick, but it took years to write most of them. I've been working extra hard on them lately because of the friendly competition from you and a few others.

Thank you, Wild Man and Meriadoc.

And Rick - thanks for the congratulations, man. The only two parodies (among the ones I have posted so far on Amiright) that I had (aside from musical theater parodies) before I started creating and composing new ones were "COBOL Wizard" which I wrote in its entirety many years ago when I was a COBOL programmer, and "The Erection Of Edmund Fitzgerald", which was incomplete for years until I found Amiright and was inspired to get off my duff and compose the rest of its verses. Thanks, Rick - I enjoy the creative atmosphere here, too.

When it comes to making fun of Kim Jung-il, thereīs no such thing as a de-parodirized zone, cos he donīt seem to understand the difference between paradise and parody anyway. Go you! :-)

A good political parody. Not the funniest parody on the board, but gets its intended point across.
Johnny D - July 18, 2004 - Report this comment
That's all I was hoping for, Jeff, so thanks very much.
