Song Parodies -> "Newbie Tuesday"

Original Song Title:

"Ruby Tuesday"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

The Rolling Stones

Parody Song Title:

"Newbie Tuesday"

Parody Written by:

Kristof Robertson

The Lyrics

Let me preface this parody by saying that I'm a lazy sod who doesn't read as many parodies by new authors as I should. This then, I guess, is a self-reprimand, but also a plea for established authors to support new talent on this site on at least one day a week. It doesn't have to be on Tuesday...
Song you post but no feedback you get
You think it's the best you've done, and yet
Comments don't appear
Your vote graphs are all clear
You despair
Does no one care?

Let's try Newbie Tuesday
Read the work of someone new
You could find a diamond today
Someone might surprise you

From wide-eyed teens to burnt out veterans
Everybody here deserves a chance
Poetic or lame
Find an unfamiliar name
Check out their stuff
Easy enough

All welcome in our community
Online friendships made, and laughs for free
Writing can be fun
But not if your audience is one
Or even none

Let's try Newbie Tuesday
Read the work of someone new
Banish newbie's no-vote blues day
Hey, you know you want to!

I almost disagree with you, Kristof, for the following reason: it is virtually impossible not to get a vote and comment from Michael Pacholek, even for newbies. :-)

Is today a Newbie Tuesday? Whatever, I missed that announcement. Y.A.D..:D Glad you said almost impossible, because MP didn't vote on any of mine for almost two years. Good parody, Kristof.

Good parody tho Im a lazy sod who chooses what to read by whether I know the OS or not first.....not by author ;) 5s

Aww.. Kristof, what a wonderful idea! We all have been there once, and know what it is.

Sweet... have to admit that (in the words of the OS) it comes and goes: at times I seem to be looking at lots of new authors; at others, hardly any.

Well said, Kristof...as it happens, your idea more or less coincides with what I have been TRYING to do lately...and I actually HAVE pretty much done this the last week or two(maybe?...well...ONE WEEK for sure...). 5's...

Great idea Kristof. I suppose I'm no longer a "newbie" (or maybe...jury's still probably out on that). I try to comment or rate as many a day as I can but much 2000s or pre-1960s is DKTOS territory for me; a comment will have to suffice in those cases.

Kvetch, kvetch, kvetch, Adagio.

Very Touching, and a brilliant idea. Veteran Authors like us should check out the parodies of the new folk.

Thanks for the nudge, KR...I know that if I hadn't gotten encouragement from some old timers when I started, I wouldn't have kept submitting...and what a loss that would have been for the rest of you, huh? ; )

I try to check out new stuff...but I have to admit that I'm probably guiltier than the rest in my bad habit of not reading enough new stuff...but if it makes any of the newbies feel better, I'd like to point out that I don't make much time to read ANYthing these days. I am a horrible person. And yet, you will continue to love me. =) And I will promise to do better.

Finally, if we're going to share Mister Pacholek stories...it didn't take long for him to start commenting on my stuff...it just took him longer than usual for him to fall in love with me...and thereafter comment NICELY on my stuff...; )

I thought this parody would get lots of 5s from newbies, but it appears that all of the comments so far have been made by us "burnt out veterans." Good message and cleverly delivered, KR.

I'm not exactly a newb, but I hardly ever get reads... usually about 2 or 3 per song..
Stuart McArthur - September 07, 2005 - Report this comment
yes, that's a fine fine sermon, er parody, Kristof - and I'll cram myself into the confessional box with all the rest, and beg forgiveness - I always check out authors I know first, then the newbies with the good titles or where I know the OS, but not if I run out of time - yet I was treated better than that when I started too, so I shall attempt to redeem myself - perfectly written too of course - 555

Thanks for the feeback, everyone. Yes, sometimes it's hard to find the time to read new stuff. My analogy. When you want a quick lunch, Do you go to McDonalds or Vlads Hungarian Sushi Parlour, which has just opened up across the road? We can but only try...

Pout, pout, pout, Arwen.
