Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"It's All Too Rootiful"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

Veggies supersized
Yams dressed with eyes where spades have gleaned
Soil reaming spires
Parsnippy for starch, that carrot gleams!

Great po-ta-to there!
Try and fry
Quite reddish beet there!
Sugar plied
Just spray some tares there
And make them die!

It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful

It's no big grind to sow each kind
Put turn-ip seeds in muck and the mud
Shov-els come out to delve a sprout
Now slice and have fun with a spud

Nice rutabaga's too (wet with some dew)
Jer-us-s'lem art-ichokes for stew
You can with some tools (some tools so cool)
Why, grow some food that makes you drool

Cassava too there
Feast your eyes!
Plate full ra-dish there
For baking pies!
But why the tears there?
An onion sly!

It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful

Tubers maligned, it's so unkind
Keep dung up, water's sucked, give 'em sun
Shov-el comes out to delve a sprout
Then slice and put some on a bun...

It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
Hoe!
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful
It's all too rootiful

It's good, M&P... but not up to your previous sublime Flat-Bottomed Girls :-)

I've been trying to figure out how to do this one. Now I know. Bootiful job.

Once I remembered how the tune went I was singing along, much to the amusement of everyone else at work!

Thank you everyone! And Phil: ...but it's soooo much deeper.... ;-)

LOL..nice

as I mentioned in another comment today, "root" has an entire extra meaning in Australia (not to mention rootiful) - which adds an entire other dimension to this parody Merry and Pippin - and I'm the more amused for it - thankyou - 555

Ha ! I wasn't sure what to expect when I first came across this one.....though I hasten to add, it was still dirty ! Another gem from my favourite pair :-)
Peregrin - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks all! Eh! Stuart? It does? I would never have known! Now I need to find out what it was that we said!

Peregrin - are you merry and pippin?...okay I'll give you 4 clues....In ROOT replace the T with K, one O with N, the R with B, and keep the other O where it is - (altho maybe that word's local too?)
Phil Alexander - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Stuart, if you'd read your LOTR you'd realize that Merry and Pippin are the shortened versions of Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took - Peregrin's the "Pippin" half :-)

You two...WACKY...555!
Phil Alexander - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
PS... I think Pippin will be fully aware of the antipodean meaning for the word "root" :-)
Guy - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Believe it or not I actually know the original of this and it's been years since I've heard it or even thought of it. This was a rootin' tootin' good parody. 5 pounds of potatos for your efforts.
Stuart McArthur - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Phil - thanks for that - not knowing LOTR is certainly a handicap on this site.........re "root": from experience I'm still taking Peregrin's comment above on face value :-)
Peregrin - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Muwahahaha! What a tangled web is wove! Woven? Weaved? yes to everything!
Meriadoc - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Hee hee. If Pippin knew another meaning, I was not informed! ;-D
Stuart McArthur - October 26, 2004 - Report this comment
Merry and Pippin - apart from Phil, I've never known anyone outside Oz who knows that we use "root" for "screw" - causing much juvenile giggling when U.S. celebs come over here and tell talkshow hosts how they were "rooting" for the Red Sox in the World Series, etc. It's so quaint and "outback" a term, God knows where it comes from :-)
Peregrin - October 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Stuart, methinks that what Merry says Merry knows and what in fact Merry knows may be being blurred! Perhaps what Pippin syas may not be all that it seems either! Seems to me that Phil's words are well informed though ;-)
Stuart McArthur - October 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Pippin, my brain is now completely blurred - I need a drink....
Meriadoc - October 27, 2004 - Report this comment
Hmmm..... sounds like Phil and Pippin might be getting awful intimate.... I need to get to the root of this.... ;-D
Peregrin - October 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Stuart, re this "It's so quaint and "outback" a term, God knows where it comes from"

I think it come from Mooroolbark. Am I close? ;-p
Stuart McArthur - October 29, 2004 - Report this comment
now THIS is getting spooky....many years ago, I used to teach in Mooroolbark - where the hell did you get that name from? - it might sound outback to you, but it's actually a leafy outer suburb of Melbourne - and if it was in fact the birthplace of the term "root" I think my Year 11 class would have been fully aware of that, and would have artfully used such knowledge against authority figures such as myself - AND there would have been a sign as you enter Mooroolbark proudly proclaiming so lofty an accomplishment - sadly neither of these things happened, Peregrin - back to your Atlas, I'm sorry - what else have you got there?
Peregrin - October 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Muwhahaha, 1-0 to Pippin! I will leave you to ponder this for a while!
Stuart McArthur - October 29, 2004 - Report this comment
okay, d'oh - pondered it and feel stupid....BUT although you may eventually get their with your cunning and guile, Pippin, the guy who played that match on that ground in Mooroolbark MIGHT share my name but it is not I......(oddly and bizarrely though, he played for Croydon, which was the name of the school I taught at, and I've never heard of him)
Peregrin - October 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Eh? No, muggins, I got it from your website!
Stuart McArthur - October 29, 2004 - Report this comment
well, peregrin, I had overlooked that link (forgot I added it to my profile when setting up) - strangely, when I typed my name into a search engine, the same Mooroolbark came up re a soccer match containing my namesake (hence my comment) - for the record though, I have no connection with that bloke from that town, or that town, but well sleuthed, I must say :-)
