The Lyrics

Well, I urged everyone to wait and weigh the events and responses to the Hurricane Katrina Disaster before posting in haste...so I read and reflected and mulled it all over...and here's what I think...BTW - This fine old 60's OS by Traffic has not ever been used on this site prior to this piece.
{to flute instrumental notes in intro - sing lightly & repetitively until opening line}
( "just how many dead men...")

Just how many dead men will it take for us to see
This President we have now does not care 'bout you and me
He'll smile and tell you tales and jokes and pass the time of day
But if you need some help from him you may just float away

Promised to take care of us in an emergency
Hurricane Katrina did not spur his urgency
Disaster fell; things went to Hell, but on his ranch he stayed
Then finally got off his duff and found something to say

The Famed "Big Easy" suffered 'neath Katrina's awesome winds
The levees broke and waters raged endangering citizens
They holed up in the Superdome; a place of last resort
Existing there in squalor, fetid feces caked the floor

Lacking food and water; In a most sorry state
Waiting to be rescued lest they suffer awful fates
The President flew overhead; looked down from "Air Force-1"
While down below the people wondered why they had been shunned

While the people of this country saw the suffering on TV
The feeble FEMA Manager did fail those most in need
He had no clue about his job; those folks got no relief
Across this land the people watched this farce in disbelief

(...watched in disbelief...)
(just how many dead men will it take...)
(Bodies......)
(floating right past me...bodies float past me...)
(just how many dead men will it take......)

{Distant moaning sounds out all the way out to Fade}

Thank you Stuart and alvin...this one fell into place once I started writing it...amazing how the sorry and sour truth will do that sometimes...as an aside...more 'Traffic' OS parodies coming up...one for tomorrow and...MAYBE more beyond that...

thank you, carol...Kristof...you should request that fraudulent comment be removed....even though it's not really clear what whoever did post it is trying to say...

Don't you just hate it when a president causes a hurricane and makes it land right in a city where there are poor black people? Bush really sucks that way.

Gee, Linda, I thought maybe you had been packed away to wherever it is unreasonable, idiotic, shrill trolls and apologists are stored when they have outlived their usefulness...guess not, huh? Well, that's NOT what I said - and you know it, I know it, the other people that read this know it...So who exactly do you think you are kidding with that inane comment? Take your lame attempt at sarcasm and cram it, lady...your opinion just does not matter to me, and neither does your petty "1-vote"...it just makes it easier to dismiss you completely as a participant in any meaningful dialogue about our country and it's future...how does it feel to be Queen of your own little 1-person Galaxy, because nobody here could possibly be taking what you say seriously...you just hang around and try to provoke and aggravate...no big deal, you see, because when you aggravate me it costs me but a few minutes to tell you what I think of your silly agenda...and then I can go on my way and forget about you...too bad you can't do the same, huh? Stuck being "Linda-the-Liberal-Slayer" 24/7 every day, 365 days a year...wouldn't have that position for all the Oil in Iraq...Bye-Bye for now...guess I will see ya' in the Funny Papers tomorrow, right? OH..."Whiner"...I guess that was a sarcastic response to me? Hard to tell, it's so well put...Geez, I am humbled by your wit...you are truly a master of sarcasm...perhaps one day you will identify yourself and maybe even share with us how you came to be so adept in this area...must have taken years of hard work to develop that style and flair...maybe someday you will get to have the space below Linda in the Sunday Funnies...keep hoping...it can happen...
