The Lyrics

Following the United Kingdom's departure from the European Union (abbreviated to EU in line 4), border controls at London's main airport (Heathrow) became more onerous and delays became more apparent as recreational air travel became possible again during 2021. No doubt, passengers arriving in Great Britain by international train, cruise liners and ferries also grappled with the additional procedures arising from Brexit and Covid-19 precautions and quarantine requirements, but TV news tended to emphasise the discomfort felt by air travellers. Direct flights between Sweden and UK airports besides Heathrow were few and far between as the virus continued to impact citizens of both countries. New record releases and concert dates were announced by ABBA in late summer 2021, also exciting the interest of the mainstream media.
My my, at border queue Ben Andersson was cross-questioned
Why why, did the officers doubt his intentions?
He’s waiting submerged in the queue
Now Britain has left the EU!

Border queue – born from suspicion of foreigners,
Border queue can’t separate toffs from the commoners,
Cabin crew, not getting paid while they’re in the queue,
Border queue – we shuffle along for an hour or two,
O hohoho border queue – can’t jet about like we used to do.

My my, Ben wished he’d never booked a flight to Heathrow
Oh dear, congestion so much worse than a casino
And how can he ever respect
The crackpots that we did elect?

Border queue – born from suspicion of foreigners,
Border queue can’t separate toffs from the commoners,
Border queue - wish I could leap like a kangaroo,
Border queue – we shuffle along for an hour or two,
O hohoho border queue – can’t jet about like we used to do.

He’s rapidly losing his cool,
The customs procedure seems cruel.
Border queue – shuffle along for an hour or two,
Border queue – customer service has gone askew,
Border queue – can’t jet about like we used to do.

Border queue – bring me a drink from the nearest bar,
Border queue – next time I’ll travel by Eurostar,
Border queue – further delays if I hire a car!
Benny Bror Göran Andersson is a talented musician who, upon leaving school, performed as a member of The Hepstars and later found worldwide fame as a member of ABBA. He maintained a gift for songwriting through the Tim Rice musical "Chess" and "Kristina från Duvemåla" in his homeland. Also, in 2002, he was appointed a professor by the Swedish government. The song presumes that he often makes international journeys by scheduled airliner.
