Song Parodies -> "Resurrected Man"

Original Song Title:

"Free Electric Band"

Original Performer:

Albert Hammond

Parody Song Title:

"Resurrected Man"

Parody Written by:

The Comedian

The Lyrics

( --- instrumental intro --- )

His father's name was Joseph, he's a wood-workin' man

With mother Mary, had to flee, to E-gyp-tian land

They all returned to Nazareth and lived by Moses' law

The boy grew up in sanctity, and the Elders He did awe

Our happiness was paid for
When He laid His body down

For sinners He was suffering
And winning them a crown

Our future life in heaven
He talked about and planned

And He saved us all forever ---
He's the Resurrected Man!

( --- brief instrumental --- )

He went to heal with hands the hurts of ev'ry soul He'd find

And He healed the sick and raised the dead and filled with sight the blind

And that Teacher taught us values that we have to learn to keep

And He stripped the fear from many frightened sin-ners who did weep

In the Garden of Gethsemane
His tears turned soil to mud

And He cried so terrified that
His sweat ran red with blood

His infinite humility
We'll never understand

'Til He comes again in glory ---
As the Resurrected Man!

( --- brief instrumental --- )

Theologians sit and speculate
About this Man's career

A Rabbi
or
A Healer
or
A Godly Engineer

And He was led to slaughter
Like a sacri-ficial la-a-amb

He freely suffered through it ---
He's the Resurrected Man!

( --- brief instrumental --- )

The Romans sent some soldiers to keep watch over the tomb

'Til a flash of light from heaven signalled death had met its doom

(Yes!) And the Cosmic Christ awakened, and He rolled away the stone

And life infused His body's every cell and every bone

Some women came with spices
To anoint His funeral bed

But they saw a man in white who startled them, and then he said ---

"Why seeketh thee the living, where the dead sleep 'neath the sa-a-and?

For the one you seek is risen ---
He's the Resurrected Man!"

Alleluuuuuuuia, the Resurrected Man!

Risen-up-and-up was He, yes He's the Resurrected Man!
Risen-up-and-up was He, yes He's the Resurrected Man!
Risen-up-and-up was He, yes He's the Resurrected Man!
Risen-up-and-up was He, yes He's the Resurrected Man!
Risen-up-and-up was He, yes He's the Resurrected Man!

( --- continue to fade --- )

I found this using the random button. Ironic I should do so shortly after having done the same thing with "I'm An Old Testament Man"! :) I can assure you I remember the OS, Albert Hammond was bigger in Australia than he was in the US (confirmed with Merry in previous conversations) in the early to mid 70s, he had a heap of hits down here. Free Electric Band is a great song.

Should have left a comment earlier, but didn't know this site in 2005. The lyrics of your parody fit the melody perfectly, and are far more uplifting than the original. This would be a good song for one of the modern churches.
