The Lyrics

Note: I do not dislike America as a group, just this song. Click Here and Here to get a few opinions of this OS that coincide with mine and do not use expletives every sentence. I made this from downloaded lyrics alone as there is no way I'll ever listen to this song again willingly. I know many of you like this OS, so I guess I'll see some low marks here........
Oh the first time that I heard this
I was thinking it really sucked
Talk of plants and birds and non-sense things
And my ears begin to ring
The first thing I noticed is that the song sucks
And they play like 2 chords
The beat was weak and the words were dumb
Couldn't believe what I heard

I think it's really boring 'cause this song is so lame
I feel the lyrics they are in-ane
If you listen, the words they all sound the same
And that's why I feel that this song is so lame

Blah ( x~18 )

After two times of hearing this dreck
My face began to turn red
After three times of hearing this wreck
I was thinking "Be better off dead?"
And the "story" it told; appetizing as mold
That's growing on a piece of bread

You see I think it's really awful-
-'cause this song is so lame
I feel the lyrics they are in-ane
In the chorus, the grammar's so freaking lame
"cause they're ain't no one for to give you no name"?*

Blah ( x~18 )

After 4 times my ears be-gan to bleed
I thought a doctor I might need!
Then vi-sion it blurred then vo-mit-ing
In-to the ce-ra-mic thing
I regained my composure and then turned off the sound
And I listened to it no more
Headaches they remained 'til some Advil was found
And from that day onward I swore:

That this song it is so crappy that it's more than just lame
Worse than a Yugo on low oc-tane
Rather boring when the lyrics are in-ane
And I ain't the on-ly one who feels this way

Blah ( x~18 )
Copyright 2005+ Red Ant. If America could rhyme "underground" with "ground" and "things/rings", I can rhyme "lame" with "lame" and use suck a few times. And yes, I admit that many of the songs I like have non-sensical lyrics but none are like this one. * You know you're in trouble when I diss you for grammar.

I agree with your opinion of the song and your parody! No low marks from me....555

Hilarious! I parodied that stupid song twice, myself!

I'm certainly with you about the chorus, Red Ant, and....yes, the whole song, too - 555

Nailed it perfectly, Red Ant! 5x3

Although I love TOS, this is a very good reworking.

Thanks to all:

Peter: You are a brave soul downloading TOS and smart for deleting it. About the "cruelty to animals", I suppose I'll cancel my parody idea called "How To Build A Ferret".

Rick: Glad to see another who agrees

Johnny: You must have super aural fortitude or a photographic memory to parody TOS twice.

Stuart: The chorus is perhaps one of the worst I've heard. Glad you're onboard.

Dee: With a pneumatic nail gun I believe.

Michael: You must be in some agreement here as trashing a song one loves generally doesn't lead to praise. Rest assured I won't be doing the same to any of your other favorite artists/OSs, unless you like "Hollaback Girl". That deserves a thorough trashdown.
Offender - July 17, 2005 - Report this comment
Funny, I never really thought there was anything awful about the song, though I didn't especially agree with any of its hippie-dippy environmental sentiments. (That "heart made of ground" is so barren in some deserts I've seen that paving it over would be redundant. Even Greenpeace wouldn't complain!)

If you want a truly dreadful song to parody, try "MacArthur Park." I've heard it a couple of times, and I still can't figure out what it's about, except maybe some pretentious old geezer nattering on about how sad he is that some idiot left a cake out in the rain and it's starting to melt. If that makes no sense, it's because--believe me, I've heard it--it makes no sense.

Warning: if you ever listen too closely to that song, your brain WILL try to drill its way out of your skull. It's that bad.

Even though I think the OS is alright, your parody left me in stitches

i loved the way you turned this song against itself...5s

Ant: I've also done TOS song twice: "Of Course, I've No Blame" (because of my contempt for Bush) and "Beat Dead Horse, It's So Lame" (because of my hopeless fixation on Catherine Zeta-Jones). Love Gwen Stefani ("Stefani Is On Television"), don't like "Hollaback Girl." That song drives me bananas. And not in a good way.
Red Ant - July 18, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Scathe and Alvin.

Offender, I'll take your word on "MacAuthur Park". Just reading the lyrics I Googled was bad enough.

Michael: I knew of the second one. I don't hate Gwen but Hollaback Girl ( if I can stand to listen to it ) will likely get a smackdown in the near future, with your approval. I'll make sure to change the B-A-N-A-N-A-S line just for you.

Offender & Red Ant --- I posted a parody of "MacArthur Park" called "King Arthur Barked" --- it really does a number on the OS, if I do say so myself! ;-)

555. Very good.. the original song is boring and also popped up in "Dave Barry's book of bad songs"(which I have, it's very funny).
Red Ant - July 21, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Johnny D, responded on that parody. Thanks Step-chan, I'll have to get that book

SOTM-555... I wasn't sure if I had this song, but checked because I have a lot of seventies compilations (This IS from the 70's, right?). Then I saw I had it, and listened to it, and I thought it was boring and immediately thought that your title was correct. Then I listened to it, and I'm sorry, but I had to stop after the second chorus. I like the second verse for some reason.
Red Ant - August 03, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Dominic. Yep, from the 70s but I know an abridged version was released later on (1981 perhaps?). It still was too long.

[SOTM] DKTOS [Do I really WANT to Know The Original Song??!], but an entertaining read. Liked the line; "worse than a yugo on low octane"...
Red Ant - August 05, 2005 - Report this comment
Well Dumb Ass Kid, it would help to KTOS because you won't really understand why this parody was made if you do not. Then again, you're probably better off NOT knowing it......

Ahh...unanimous...I did one for the second time today, which made me wonder how I stood it the first time. I thought it was me in a lousy mood...no, it was the OS being lousy. 5's

SOTM--I have to admit that I don't mind the OS, but I pretended that your lyrics were about every song I've ever heard by Moby, and it was suddenly HILARIOUS!! =) Great job...

I happen to like the song but this is a good parody. 4/5 cause it wasn't really my sense of humor.
