Jokes:

So I was walking through a desert in America with my friend when I saw a horse. I tried to call it, but it wouldn't come, so I said, "What do you think the horse is called?" My friend said, "It's America. The horse has no name!"

Band Name Origins:

  • The band's name developed from many sources, including a deep homesickness for the USA. When they noticed a jukebox with the "Americana" label, they discovered (at least in part) their permanent name. Taken from the biography "America: A Short History". Submitted by: Brenna McAdow
  • Three boys in England performed their pop/folk rock songs at pubs in England where their fathers were stationed (American servicemen). Locals began calling the the Americans. Not to be confused with "Jay & the Americans" they simply decided on America for their name/ Submitted by: Bill Stoner

Stupid Band Names:

  • Naming a band after a continent is both ridiculous and excessive. The same goes for Asia and Europe. Submitted by: Jonathan S.
  • They're cockneys. Is that good enough? Submitted by: Bobo

a parody of "Daisy Jane" by America
One day you gotta believe that all this will be over. Believe that the fighting will be done. Believe that we'll be out playing in the streets. But for now, we can only hope; that Christians love Muslims, that Muslims love Christians. That Feisal loves u.s. as much as Daisy. In a perfect world... this would be his love song . . .

Funniest Song Lyrics:

"Tin Man"
The Funny Lyrics:
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of Sir Galahad
So please, believe in me
When I say I'm spinnin' round round,
Smoke glass stained bright colors
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles
Why They're Funny:
It's a great tune...but these lyrics really don't make any sense!!! :)
Submitted by: Kathy
"Ventura Highway"
The Funny Lyrics:
Seasons crying, no despair,
Alligator lizards in the air,
In the air!
Why They're Funny:
Alligator lizards in the AIR!? Must be some weird kind of pterodactyl. Makes me wonder what these guys were smoking when they wrote this...

Repetitive Song Lyrics:

"Only In Your Heart"
The Repetitive Lyrics:
Mary, have you seen better days?
Why They're Repetitive:
This line is sung over and over. Hey Mary, answer that question already!

Nonsensical Song Lyrics:

"Tin Man"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
Oh, Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man
That he didn't, didn't already have.
Why They're Nonsensical:
Think a triple negative (which implies a negative) is bad? Try this quadruple negative, the summit of horrible grammar. But at least the meaning is decipherable.
Submitted by: Tommy
"Rainbow Song"
The Nonsensical Lyrics:
I fell asleep on a rainbow.
Why They're Nonsensical:
No one can sleep on a rainbow. A rainbow is just an illusion, therefore, nobody can even touch one. Therefore, this lyric describes something that is literally impossible.

Inappropriate Song Lyrics:

"Sister Golden Hair"
The Inappropriate Lyrics:
Well, I keep on thinkin' 'bout you, Sister Golden Hair surprise
And I just can't live without you; can't you see it in my eyes?
I been one poor correspondent, and I been too, too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind
Why They're Inappropriate:
The last two lines above are pretty typical of the song's overall message. The singer is telling the title character about how he keeps failing to get around to see her. But that pretty much refutes his claim of 'I just can't live without you', and as for 'can't you see it in my eyes?', well, duh! How is she to see anything in his eyes if he never comes around?
Submitted by: Ashley Michelle McGowan
"I Need You"
The Inappropriate Lyrics:
Like the winter needs the spring,
You know I need you
Why They're Inappropriate:
Since the coming of spring puts an end to winter, it is hard to see how the winter can need the spring.
Submitted by: Alison Runyon
There are additional America inappropriate lyrics available.

Bad Grammar in Song Lyrics:

"Horse with No Name"
The Lyrics:
In the desert you can remember your name 'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
Why:
Double negative.
Submitted by: John Barry
"A Horse With No Name"
The Lyrics:
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
Why:
Do I really have to point out the problem here? "for to give you no pain"? I mean, no one talks like that. I think the desert heat has gotten to him.

Real Places Mentioned in Songs:

"Ventura Highway"
The Lyrics:
Ventura Highway in the sunshine
Why:
A highway to Ventura is referred to. And it's a pretty safe bet it means Ventura, California. the best known Venura in the U.S. at least. After all, California and places therein enjoy many references in songs.
