Don't think I'd want to be there when the big one hits; maybe get a place in Nevada, which might be the new coast. Nicely written tale.
A ground breaking parody - but only measured 5.55
I drove straight through to LA from Dallas around '76 or '77, got a room at the Ace Motel at Sunset and Bronson around noon and fell asleep immediately. Woke up around 4 p.mp as the dresser was moving across the floor from a small quake, I think about 4.3 or around there. Thought I was dreaming, but had several aftershocks that said I wasn't. Scary indeed. Great stuff here, alvin!

I can still remember how freaked I was when I was awoken by the first earthquake I experienced...It was only a 4.something from the New Madrid fault, but it was a shocker nonetheless...I can only imagine how scary those California quakes must feel...Great parody!!!...555!!!

Slept through my first one. (Vibrating bed - nice feature in this motel!) Thought maybe a big truck was going down the street, when felt the next one. You forgot to mention how cool it is when one strikes while yer "doin' it" (heh heh)... but when the boulder rolled down the hill, crashed through the bedroom walls, and landed a foot or two from the bed, it was no fun. Good thing I was on the potty at the time. (true)

I have never experienced at earthquake, Al... but I have lived in bushfire-prone areas, as well as flood plains, so I empathise with the seige mentality of folks regularly subjected to natural disasters. Great stuff. 555
