Song Parodies -> "Like My Stocks"

Original Song Title:

"Like a Rock"

Original Performer:

Bob Seger

Parody Song Title:

"Like My Stocks"

Parody Written by:

Mike Armstrong

The Lyrics

Tribute to the falling stock market, and many people's constant battles with the Nasdaq and Dow Jones.
Sat there frownin, sweatin in my chair,
Just lost a million, another Dow Jones scare,
Thought back a year, when I didn't have a care...
Bout my stocks.

Things were peachy, things were goin great,
Retiring at 40, was certainly my fate,
Now I'm nothing, but churned up business bait...
With my stocks.

My hands unsteady, I went to E-Trade online,
Latest numbers, say Lucent's doin fine,
Then an update, down to $1.99...
It's my stocks.

CHORUS
Like my stocks,
Goin lower every day,
Like my stocks,
Fallin fast as Kenneth Lay,
Like my stocks,
There just ain't much to say,
Bout my stocks...

And I stood on Wall Street,
My portfolio complete...ly ruined by mistakes,
I went home and I cried,
Cuz WorldCom had lied,
I still believe they got screwed...

(Guitar Solo)

Twenty stocks down, bad day again,
I'll blame it on A. Andersen,
I sit and I wonder sometimes,
Where they've gone...

And sometimes when I'm at lunch,
Ohhh, I watch them number crunch,
Ohhh, the Nasdaq's dropped a bunch,
And I weep, oh how I weep...

CHORUS

2ND CHORUS
Like my stocks,
Spiralling straight down,
Like my stocks,
Used to be well-renowned,
Like my stocks,
How they make me frown,
Oh, they're my stocks,
They're my stocks...

(Guitar Solo)

(ABC) Clever intersection of original song-title with the parody's theme, "dropping like a rock" ! Very clever indeed!

This song came out before comments...I remember it because I really liked it at the time. Thought it was one of your best, and still do!

I think the Armstrong team is too young to have really experienced the agony of the stock market, but this parody is very well done. I like the Ken Lay line best.
