The Lyrics

ACT IV, Scene 2

(Same as previous scene.)

TYRO: OK, I grant that Nazis and Supremacists are vermin, but how much influence do they really have?

SULLEN: Well, Pol Turd is fan of Spencer. By the way, make that “supremacyst,” with a Y.

TYRO: But they’re just cranks and wackjobs, and there aren’t that many of them.

SULLEN: How do you know?!

TYRO (stammering): Well, uh, I, uh…. They’re just a bunch of racist clowns. Democracy’s strong enough to control them.

(Another member of the protest group steps forward and sings.)

“True Sorrow, So Long Country!”
(Parody of “Tomorrow Belongs to Me”)

The rug got a wetting from liquid that's warm;
the tapes are under lock and key.
To Capo he’s chained and he paid off Storm—
true sorrow till year ’20

The branch on the linden might no more be seen…
the forests razed rapaciously
Each day we see the puckered-sphincter mien—
to borrow a word, “ugly.”

Unshamed, many people are closing their eyes
to what in front of them they see.
Alt-Reich prompts right arms to arise, arise.
True sorrow, it's gone,
true sorrow, so long.
True sorrow, it’s gone, country.

(As she finishes singing, Steeped-in Mitler emerges onto the building’s balcony and raises his right arm as he screeches, foaming at the mouth.)

“Tomorrow They’re Done, Trust Me!”

Sunlight I will shed as I read Daily Storm’;
I want kids in cages, not free.
I’ll demonize all of them, true to form.
Tomorrow, more strong are we.

Some branches of government should not be seen,
leaving just the “presidency.”
Immigrants I will constantly demean.
Their sorrows don’t bother me.

Send them all away; get them out of my sight
if they don’t have residency.
To put all in cattle cars seems just right.
Tomorrow will come,
tomorrow, no sun.
Tomorrow they’re done, trust me!

(After trying to compose himself, Mitler reenters the building.)

SULLEN: Still think they can be controlled?

(TYRO has a look of numb shock on his face.)

(Blackout)
