The Lyrics

The third installment of my President's Day tribute to underappreciated Presidents concerns itself with (Stephen) Grover Cleveland), who was the 22nd and 24th President. He served two terms but not in succession, losing the election of 1888 (but not the popular vote) to Benjamin Harrison. BTW, Grover The Good did not give his name to a city in Ohio or a famous Muppet. ;D

There's a Prez that you might not know,
Served two terms but not in a row,
Only Dem for fifty-two years,
Liked to hunt and fish and drink beer.
Grover Cleveland - know him more,
22 and 24!

In the Gilded Age, old Big C
Always stood for plain honesty.
"Tell the truth" - for him, the great must!
Public office is public trust!
Grover Cleveland knew the score,
22 and 24!

He got married in the White House,
Was much older than his young spouse,
Had huge budget surpluses, then
23 squandered it! That Ben!
So he came back like before,
22 and 24!

Is his legacy sufficient?
Gov that's honest and efficient!
What would Grover say 'bout today?
Corruption and waste are no way!
Need him now more than before,
22 and 24!

I have a few accent problems in this one. Would it have been easier if his name had been Grover Chicago? ;D

I know what Teddy Roosevelt would say about this parody, "Bully, bully!!!!"

Writing this 39 miles from his birthplace and 19 miles from his grave, I wholeheartedly approve. Too bad he tried again: His first time around was very good, but his second was a disaster -- not all his own fault, as Benjamin Harrison left him a pig in a poke, but the 1893-98 depression was a whopper, and he just didn't get it.

He might not have inspired the name of a city or blue muppet, but he sure inspired a good parody! (Excellent use of OS and title switch!)

Dang it! I thought you had hooked us up with a couple of chicks for a hot weekend! (sigh) ;) ....555 for Presidents who do no harm (rare), run surpluses (almost never), and parodists who sing their praises.

I DKTOS well enough to analyze it off the top of my head (have heard it, but don't like it, so don't listen to it,), but if any specific lines or questions, throw 'em here, and "We Can Work It Out". (Now, "there's" an idea for a song! Someone should do that!)

I love history parodies, and this one was a very clever idea.

Thanks all! AFW - be assured that I'll give the vice-presidents "the business". ;D

Great job. How could I not like a parody by one of my favorite AmIRighters about a President whose first name is that of my favorite Sesame Street character (as a kid, I haven't watched that show since I was about 8 years old) and whose last is that of a good "Family Guy" character, a mediocre football team and part of a slang term for something disgusting? 5s FTW.
