Band Name Origins:

  • Terry Kath played guitar--and whoever said that the Chicago Transit Authority didn't care for them naming themselves after that and the pure length are correct. Submitted by: cjack62
  • M Ling got it wrong. He had it right up untill the part where they just shortened the name. The City of Chicago saw that this band was named Chicago Transit Authority and they thought they were poking fun or making fun of them so they sued them, and insted they agreed to change there name. So they shortened it to "Chicago" Submitted by: AJ

Misrhymed Song Lyrics:

"Beginnings"
The Misrhymed Lyrics:
The entire song!
Why They're Misrhymed:
The song's protagonist is a songwriter who falls so completely in love that he wishes he 'could sing it to you.' But unfortunately (the song goes), he 'just can't think of the right words to say.'
The subtle joke (that very few people notice) is that none of the lines in the entire song rhyme!

Upbeat Songs With Depressing Lyrics:

"If You Leave Me Now"
The Lyrics:
If you leave me now
You'll take away the biggest part of me
Oo-oo-oooh-oh
Baby, please don't go!
Why:
The song has a very beautiful, if mellow, introduction, but for the whole song, the singer is whining and begging his lover not to break up with him, threatening her with claims that the consequences will be too great for him to bear if she does.
Submitted by: Rick O'Shea
"Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?"
The Lyrics:
Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry
Why:
"Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" was the super group, Chicago's, first top five hit. Released late in 1969 and going near the top in early 1970. With an upbeat jazz tempo, but with a very serious message about what seemed to be the lack of caring (that very well could be depressing) it is interesting that it made it into the top five (#3 to be exact). At the end of the song, "cry" is turned into "die".

Hidden Messages:

"Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is"
In the Third Verse, you'll hear someone talking. Don't fret, it's someone saying "People runnin' everywhere. Don't know where to go, don't know where I am. Can't see past the next step. Don't have time to think the last mile. Have no time to look around, just run around, run around and think why"? (I think this is why this song was used on "Little Nicky" to find if there's any subliminal messages.
