Even though it's a lampoon, I think the racial element is unnecessary and misleading. I understand it's from the title of the original song, though.
This one is a disappointment JB. Comes off badly no matter the intention. Honky/Honkey comes from the 1920s when white men searching for Negro prostitutes in black areas would honk their car horns for the prostitute to get in. A white man would never get out of his car and knock on a Negro door. So, Honky/Honkey was invented as a derogatory term for a white man.
I've read your comments guys, but the point of the song is that I'm truly scared sh!tless by the drive, largely by white southern rural fundamentalists--some of them in government, to turn this country into a theocracy. Read "The Family" and "C Street" by Jeff Sharlet. Truly scary stuff. My title may be a bit over the top, but thank Elton John, in part, for that.

Hatter, your etymological explanation is most likely apocryphal. Per online etymology dict. and other sources,the actual source in unknown, but the most likely origin is that it's a corruption of "Hunky": honky also honkey, derogatory slang word for "white person," by 1967, black slang, of unknown origin, perhaps from late 19c. hunky "East-Central European immigrant," a colloquial shortening of Hungarian. Honky in the sense of "factory hand" is attested from 1946.
