The Lyrics

It's a little bit funny
That you never did find
Weapons aren't things one can
Easily hide
We don't have the money but,
Even if we did
This war is a crock that we'll
Never forgive.

Saddam could be dead now,
But then again - no -
He may well have fled, but then
Where the hell would he go?
Hanging out with Osama, maybe
And Jimmy Hoffa too.
He could be with Elvis or,
Even with you.

And you can't fool anybody
That it's just about bombs.
It may have seemed quite simple but,
Now that you're wrong
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words,
We don't want a leader
Who's destroying the world.

Now Bagdad's in shambles
So much life gone to waste,
I guess that's the price we pay for
You acting in haste
Just cause you and your buddies
Got greedy for oil
They're doing just fine now while
The rest of us toil.

And we are America,
And this is our song.
We folks may seem quite simple but,
Our voting power is strong.
So I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words,
We don't want a leader
Who's destroying the world.

Not bad, not bad. More insightful than funny, but who said parodies had to be about laughter? I thought the Elvis line was funny though, especially wine they failed to find not only Saddam, but also Osama and the taliban leader dude

Me like anti-Bush songs. They make me smile!

This was very good - straight 5's with "how funny" being "how passionate. Good job.

Congrats, especially on your pacing and use of the original song's rhyme schemes. Important points skillfully made. Thanks and keep writing please. And no, I am not a commie; I am a proud American who believes that you cannot bomb a country into democracy. d;:^)

Hey cool, thanks for the comments! I'm sort of a newbie at this... I'm not an extremist either but I thought it summed up the sentiment that seems to be all around me these days.

Fantastic! My little genius at work again!!

Leah, welcome. You can't hang around here much and not get better fast. We Superman fans figure someone in your family must be one with all the "LL" names. (Lois Lane, Lana Lang, Lex Luthor,etc..) How old are you? I have a poetry writing 16-yr-old.
Leah Lockhart - November 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks Mom :-) No, not superman fans, just a coincidence. And I'm 27. Thanks for the feedback.

I like anti-Bush songs/parodies too!

Rick doesn't mean his kid - he means his wife, Mari.
Rick D - November 18, 2003 - Report this comment
No, there's one of each! Meatball indeed!

Thanks for writing the comments, guys - otherwise I'd have overlooked this one (because I can't stand Elton John). Leah, I think you've done a superb job in expressing what a lot of people feel and tying in with the original song's rhymes and accents.
Leah Lockhart - November 19, 2003 - Report this comment
I can't stand him either, all the more reason to spoof his music! Thanks to everyone for the comments to the new kid on the block! (Hey, there's an idea...)

I like Elton John but am not offended. And I like your parody, especially "Saddam could be dead now, But then again – no." And welcome! We need more women on this site!
Leah Lockhart - November 19, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks Mari! Yeah, I got the feeling this was a bit of an "old boys club!" ;-)

Leah, Since you are the only one here that we now know is remotely close to where we are, we thought we'd invite you to our open mike that we play at every Thursday. Look on the net under "South Bay Folks" or under "Espresso Garden" in San Jose. You can sign up to sing one of your opus's and we'll accompany. It's open to everyone, in case there are other locals out there. Or send me a note and I'll explain further.

When I first began posting parody here; there were only a couple of women that wrote regularly. I'm very happy to see more ladies writing parodies, and on a regular basis. =)
Royce was amoung the first, then Melhi & Adagio , then Mari, Smurf, and Heather are recently new. Many women have come and gone, or don't post very often. Some writers don't identify their gender, probably because it's been male dominated site for a very long time. Ok girls, let's show them our stuff. It will be great fun to have a new female writer onboard. Welcome to Leah, a very talented lady!

Hey, that's cool because I'm a gay man trapped in a woman's body!! I would love to stop by the open mike night, although if you think some of my songs are funny, you should hear me sing!! I was actually going to do "Dissertation" at my school's annual variety show, but it got cancelled. So we'll see!

And thank you, Diva, for your very warm welcome. I wasn't sure but most of the names sounded male and/or androgynous. I suppose it wasn't such a good idea to use my real name, age and general location on this site... ah well. Stalk me if you will.
Rick D - November 19, 2003 - Report this comment
Then you can write "Stalked by a Man" (Unless it's Royce)
Phil Alexander - November 20, 2003 - Report this comment
Well, Leah, I've had my name, age and general location visible for a couple of years or so, and nobody's come stalking me yet. (note to self: must try harder)

Leah Btw: Just a word of caution. a few spammers have been known to visit this site. Just be very carefull about revealing personal information, like your email address. A few people on this site know my true idenitiy, and that of my husband Wild Man. Lets just say it took an act of congress, and a reasonably high comfort level to make any online aquainatances. This is an open comment section, so anyone can make remarks here. After a while, you will get to know the other writers, and have a sense of their personalities.

Thank you Diva, when I wrote my first song I just put my name in without thinking! But I won't put my email or anything like that. So far everyone seems to just be having a good time and are friendly, but I'll watch out for anything wierd coming my way! Hmmm.. Johnny Cash, "I Stalk Online?"
Diva - November 20, 2003 - Report this comment
No problem. When I first posted here, I used my real name. It was my hubby that suggested that wasn't such a good Idea. He began posting parodies under his pen name, and that's when I changed to a pen name also. We just wanted to protect our privacy. It's a personal choice. If it works for you, that's great!
Leah Lockhart - November 20, 2003 - Report this comment
Actually, my real name is Michael Jackson. Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I've been a bit tied up...
