Original Song Title:

"Rhiannon"

Original Performer:

Fleetwood Mac

Parody Song Title:

"Bill Gannon"

Parody Written by:

Paul Robinson

The Lyrics

"Bill Gannon" was Sgt. Joe Friday's partner on the Television series "Dragnet" many years ago. Gannon (played by Harry Morgan) was "2nd banana" to Friday. Could Gannon possibly have resented his secondary status? Well...this song could have happened if he did....I love the thought of Stevie Nicks singing this version because it is just so "Un-Stevie Nicks"...maybe Harry Morgan could be doing this as a video as "Gannon" with Stevie singing this way...
Bill Gannon reads the suspect his rights
and then he will un-cuff him
then offers him a smoke and a light
and then will ask some questions

Sergeant Friday gets headlines
he always captures all the ink
Here he is in on Channel Eleven
Man, that sure does stink

Bill always drives the squad car
"Cause Friday's such a big deal
he has to find those places to park
his hands; always on the wheel

Could just once Joe Friday say
"Hey, Bill, it's my turn now to drive"
Always acts like he's been sent from heaven
Gracious Sakes alive
Don't believe that guy

(Bill Gannon)
(Bill Gannon)
(Bill Gannon)
(Bill Gannon)

Bill's wife made some fresh pie tonight
at home she brings him a slice
and then complains that, "it's just not right"
and says some things that aren't nice

"Bill, your partner, he's a jerk
he's taking credit for your busts
There he is now on Channel Eleven"
gestures in disgust
{Expletive!!}, she cussed

(Bill Gannon)
(Bill Gannon)
(Bill Gannon)

Think she's right
Friday sure does bite
every night
hogging the spotlight
I'm uptight
Tell him "take a hike"

{Instrumental to Fade}

{added lyrics here}

(Ooh, take a hike)
(Joe, go take a hike)
(Take a hike)
(and then go fly a kite)
(I'm uptight)
(he hogs the spotlight)
(Wife is right)
(Friday needs a wife)
(Tell that guy)
("Hey, Joe take a hike")

(Joe's a swine)
(ass-cheek kissing kind)
(Tell that guy)
("You, I do not like")

As far as I know, this is only the second "Dragnet" parody on the site, and the first from the Sixties version, so if nothing else you get points for imagination. You suggested this parody when you commented on the first one. For those who don't remember, here it is: http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles619.shtml

Thanks, Michael...I had kind of remembered that someone did a "Just The Facts, M'am" parody, but couldn't remember who when I was writing this...but I had completely forgotten about my comment on your piece...kind of funny

I have the OS but don't know Dragnet or Bill Gannon so I'll have to not vote this piece. Great rhyming and outro lyrics.

well done Paul. Just the lift I needed after spending the last 3 days working on my PC to get it back online after some horse's backside nuked me.

Paul Robinson, you have my permission to continue in the Mac parody business. So many people turn the writer's fabulous lyrics into offensive junk. You, however, are just plain funny and obviously have a decent knowledge of and respect for the band. Very funny (and soooo true)!

Stephanie - sorry I didn't reply sooner, I've been rather busy with work the last week or so. I really appreciate your comment. Yes, I do know the 'Mac' material quite well and, yes, I do really like and respect their work. In fact, I was just listening to the album before "Rumours" last night while I was working on some job-related stuff at home.
