The Lyrics

If you're counting, yes, there's fifteen stanzas...I added an extra one
Excitement, they say, peaked in Southampton Bay
For all those set to sail the Atlantic
But none could foresee, what would soon come to be
The Wreck Of The Great Ship Titanic..

Rich and famous were some of the passengers who'd come,
They were awed by the marvelous vessel
It's vastness of size, widened young and old eyes
All felt privileged to ride something special

The grandeur, so fine..was from the White Star Line
Just a plan in the year Nineteen-Seven
JP Morgan's finance helped the plan to advance
Till it's launching, in Nineteen-Eleven...

Twenty-four boilers strong, each one twenty feet long
Nine large furnaces power the engines
Propellers, just three..move it's hulk gracefully,
Fed from coal down below in coal dungeons

Of four classic funnels, three expel smoke and gas
The fourth lends an image of power
They're symbols of types, this tall quartet of pipes,
As above the grand deck, they all tower

Passenger count's more
Than twenty-two hundred score
And the crew totals nine hundred thirteen
A gymnasium, and a pool where they swim
Until now, on a ship, had not been seen

It's designed to be..the safest one on the sea
And the king of the luxury liner
A palace afloat, is this majestic boat
There has never been any ship finer

April, nineteen twelve spins, the maiden voyage begins
Two days out, extra calm, the Atlantic
Told there's iceberg force, so the captain alters course
Slightly south, steers the Great Ship Titanic

A lookout's shout said, "There's an iceberg ahead!"
But a fateful too late came the warning
Tho' engines reverse, the ice monster, submersed,
Ripped a hole in the ship that morning

Starboard is brushed, and five compartments are flushed
Excess weight makes the others start filling
The order, "Full Stop!"..readied lifeboats are dropped
The night air and the scene are each chilling

Hurry and haste makes for some lifeboat waste
And on each, high wave wash is slapping
At two-ten A.M. stern rise brings mayhem
The huge forward funnel's collapsing

As the bridge is crushed, to the stern, all rush
Some leap from the rail for escaping
With the starboard bow full, there's a strain on the hull,
Between funnels, in half, ship starts breaking

Like a monster of thirst, the sea claims the bow first
The stern rights itself, then sinks slower
Soon buried in the silt is the greatest ship built
Two miles down on the cold ocean floor

The story's been told in movies new and old
Of the brave and the bold and the panic
Final hymn played would be, "Nearer, My God, To Thee"
At The Wreck Of The Great Ship Titanic

High above white waves roll,
Like some giant fishbowl,
Down below, cloaked by microbes, organic,
Lies the ship of it's days,
Maybe someday they'll raise,
The Wreck Of The Great Ship Titanic

Finally! A parody of the OS that matches its epic (dare I say, Titanic?) ambitions. Well done!

I don't give you fives for humor, but that is fitting for the biggest shipwreack in history.

Fantastic storytelling, AF... I'm thinking that's what the 'W' in your moniker *really stands for...

beautiful write, Sir "L'Air ! My Austrian g-Parents always kept a picture of the TITANIC in their entryway in MilWOWkee; so I always have childhood visions of that fateful voyage!

Good parody, but the author should re-read http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/thebeatles457.shtml

GP: I don't profess to be great at grammar..but please point out the specific apostrophe errors you make reference to. And I had no idea our parodies were being judged on grammar...I don't recall seeing this category...even if we were, I imagine many of the them would have some degree of gammatical error. By the way, there's no period at the end of your commenting sentence. Also, my spell check corrects "Re-read" to "Reread" with no hyphen.

Nice one. That parody gave me an idea to memorize one less well known but greater disaster - M/S Wilhelm Gustloff.

Thank you for your constructive criticism of my constructive criticism. All of your arguments are valid; the only reason you are being picked on is that your grammar, punctuation, and spelling are mostly very good.

You use "it's" 5 times. Once it is used as a contraction of "it is" and the apostrophe is correct. Four times it is used as possessive and the apostrophe is not correct.

Thank you, Susanna, sounds like a good idea....and to G.P....In restropsective review, of my apostrophe catastrophe, I note that your constructive criticism is well taken, and totally correct. As a result, I shall fire my English teacher, Sniffy..immediately, if not before, and hire another. Are you available? I pay well, ten bones a day, plus bored and room. It's..contraction of "It Is", my final offer. (contractions are coming just moments apart now, so I must rush to the spoof hospital and give birth to some new pregnant possibility parodies)

Sorry it took me so long to find this one, AFW. Then again, look how long it took for the actual ship to be found, and unlike the ship, I did reach my destination! I can't believe this hasn't been tried before -- even by me. And thank you for NOT mentioning that stupid movie! (Though there was one on CBS the year before, with George C. Scott as the captain, and a certain Miss Zeta-Jones as a passenger. I liked that one better.)
