If I ever hear a recording of this, I could imagine this song played in a mariachi tune! Very spicy and flavorful! Take 5 sombreros, 5 trumpets, and 5 violins.

BR> The auto sensor would star a lot of this out if it were in English. The popular mexicano stuff around San Antonio and south Texas is called "tejano". It's kind of a mexican polka complete with accordians. A lot of the spanish or should I say the Tex-Mex speaking stations play this stuff and have the lamest commercials in classic Tex-Mex. Here is one of a car dealer pluging his business. His closing line would go something like this:
Solomente cincuenta de enganche cincuenta por mes por cincuenta anos, Y no mas chingadera con Nor tar dodge.
Only $50.00 dollars down, 50 a month for 50 years - no more F***ing around with North Star Dodge.
Just the thought of a Mexican band doing Grand Funk makes me howl. This is pure gold, Andy. I can relly appreciate this since I'm knee deep in margaritavile and see this stuff every day, Excellent write. The mental image I get from the parody is spot on to how it would really be. Guy, I've never been to Mexico or Texas and I don't speak fluent Spanish - mine is more like effluent. I picked up very basic Spanish while I was driving round Spain in a camper van in the late 1980's but not enough to string full sentences together - just enough to get by in shops & bars in the small towns where no one speaks English. Although I was there for two months it was part of a one and a half year trip which also took me through France, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Holland, Belgium & all of the smaller principalities in between so as fast as I could learn a bit of a language I was into another country learning theirs - by the time you're 3 more countries down the road you've forgotten most of what you learned.
The nearest I've been to Texas is New York in August 2001.
As for music from Texas, the only Mariachi I've heard is in films. When rock music went rubbish in the 1980's I started looking for something different & discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan, Fab T-Birds etc & have been a fan of Texas blues/rock ever since. Thanks for the comment & vote
