"The Balclutha"
The Lyrics
It’s at the end of San Fran’s Hyde Street today,
but it no longer sails away.
Visiting it’s fun…
hasn’t got any guns…
no mate to test your fate.
A long ago it sailed the seas.
in the 19th century.
And now she’s as pretty as you please
Name of ship: the “Balclutha.”
It floats there.
But, getting back to the 19th century:
across the Atlantic, she
was built by Scots, with no second thoughts.
There's two other names
for this fine full-rigged and steel-hull ship
that was full rigged and fully equipped:
Star of Alaska, Pacific Queen nick-
name of the Balclutha.
“Swell ship, swell crew,” all the lore said.
And she wasn’t left for dead,
but refurbished and made like new.
Repairs included new decks
as well as a new masts
that were used for “fuel.” That’s truly old school.
And now she sits there in her slip;
in good shape now is this ship.
And you can learn, learn, learn if you take a trip
to the Balclutha.
