Parody Song Title:

"**** The Pope"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

What the Pope doesn't appear to have addressed his staggeringly long-winded and annoying apology (read the full text here), is the way the reaction of the Catholic Church to abuse was to cover it up, using lies and intimidation; moving abusing priests to other areas to continue their abuse. This has definitely happened for decades, and probably for centuries before that.

The actions of the Pontiff while he was still Cardinal Ratzinger as head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith only really make sense in the context of someone who knew what was happening yet chose to cover up and aid the abusers rather than the victims.
So I'd like to know why the whole institution
Took so long to go make.. restitution
**** the Pope, the ****ing Pope's crazy
**** the Pope, this still isn't over
**** the Pope, the Pope's ****ing crazy
**** the Pope

Since the tales of priestly abuse got hot
The Church has tried to pretend that they were not
And when the people's anger reached the Holy See
The Pope gave an apology for an apology
I guess I shouldn't find it surprising
That the pontiff isn't very good at apologising

Still, I'd like to know why the whole institution
Is whining on a..bout persecution
**** the Pope, the ****ing Pope's crazy
**** the Pope, this still isn't over
**** the Pope, the Pope's ****ing crazy
**** the Pope

Up to now he's used every excuse
To cover up the slightest whiff of priests' child abuse
For whenever one was found out causing pain
They'd move him to another place to carry on again
They used threats and intimidation
Then tried to lay the blame upon sec..ularization

So I'd like to know why the whole institution
Yes, I'd like to know why there's no prosecution
Yes, I'd like to know when there'll be retribution
Yes, I'd like to tell them there's no absolution
So **** the Pope, the ****ing Pope's crazy
**** the Pope, this still isn't over
**** the Pope, the Pope's ****ing crazy
**** the Pope

I don't know which is better, the parody or the two comments above this. Great stuff Phil.

I'm not sure, but I think I have heard an earlier song of the same title. It was written by King Henry The Eighth. ;D

:-) Thanks.. and no 1s yet - I'm very surprised.

Hi Claude - long time no see. So when are we going to see some new Prez parodies? (no pressure, like)

OMR - thank you for your, er, indulgence

Timmy - there isn't much humour to be gleaned from this, sad to say (except for the massive irony of an institution that has set itself up as *the* arbiter of absolute morals behaving so fantastically immorally, and as a result blowing on the wind of public opinion)
