The Lyrics

Well, this might be premature, but I don't think so...Saw some pundit or politician say that he thought Bush would be more "bi-partisan" in a 2nd term. Uhh...was this gentleman awake at all the last four years? Only a complete imbecile could really believe that. No artificial sweeteners added to this parody, so it may taste a little sour...BTW, I notice this fine J.Tull song has never before been parodied on this site. Wish I had a different story-line to use here.
Looks like we're stuck with Bush; son
To the surprise of no one
A sad prospect; it's no fun
It's sad that fear and hate won
Yes, it is sad for humanity
and tests my sobriety
Next day to wake up
With this President
At war with other nations and harms foreign relations
Can't believe it's who we really want to be

Damn, it's a shame, guess we're to blame
That it will be four years before Bush goes away

With George Bush we know the score
They'll be four more years of war
We won't have peace 'til he is done
And rich folks will not pay
They will get things their way
Why is the middle-class so dumb?
And as they make do with less
Will Dubyah, the pitiless
have mercy? No way
No, I think you all will find that in George Dubyah's mind
we're all are fools with whom he will just play

Damn, it's a shame; damn, it's so lame
Guess we're to blame; to accept George Bush, can you explain?

As young men die in Iraq
You can hear Bin Laden laugh
he is nowhere to be found
and as more bullets fly
Bush will tell us some more lies
and then jerk us all around
Perhaps by then you'll get the feeling
tire of his double-dealing and his lack of sense
at that point you'll understand, my friends
but it will be far too late by then
too late to reverse this awful trend

Damn, it's a shame, such a damn shame
So god-damned lame, that we are stuck with Bush once again
Damn, it' shame, damn, it's so lame, guess we're to blame...

Not funny, I know, but too good for anything other than 5s: a very, very good parody, Paul.

Good parody about a bad turn of events, Paul. But remember the Zero Factor. Some people say that President Reagan escaped it. But who's to say that Reagan's ultimate physical fate was not a "worse curse" than that of, say, Kennedy or Roosevelt or any of the other Zero Factor Presidents?

BTW, Paul, I did vote 555 on this parody...like Phil said, it's not funny, but a sense of humor is one of the things that'll see us through the next four years, so I'll get that ball rolling with a 5 for "How Funny" here!

Sad song --Sad day for America. Great song.
John Barry - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Try to look on the bright side, Paul. Maybe there will be another clandestine-drinking-pretzel episode, and this time it'll remain stuck.
Johnny D - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
JB, that would be the Zero Pretzel. But then Count Cheneycula would rise with the moon and flap his bat-like wings.
Quiet - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Put the rancor aside, guys.

If there were 555 electoral vote and I had my say, I'd put them all on you. You are one darn good parody writer. Even with the sour note I have to 5 this. Very well written.

Good writing. And congrats on the first Jethro Tull song.

fives for your parody, but sad you had to write it

DKTOS, but this nation just did what it wouldn't do four years ago: Give Jethro Dull permission to run the country for four years.

Thanks for the support folks. I'm in a bit of the doldrums today what with the results. To "Quiet" - rancor is all one can summon sometimes in the face of being led in the wrong direction by a moron for another four years. It's better than violence anyway. Michael P. - I like your "Jethro Dull" shot.

555 - not necessarily for humor, but for telling it like it is.
Stuart McArthur - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Conservatives and conservative voters are driven by fear, and these are fearful times - almost as simple as that - we got the same result in our election last month - good writing Paul - 555

And who's to say it's not just some big coincidence? Interesting, sure, but a coincidence, none the less. Take heart, Paul, he might die! Honestly, do you know how silly that sounds?
Paul Robinson - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
2Eagle/Stuart - Thanks. Stuart, yes this was pretty clearly a "Fear Driven" result, at least to my mode of thought. It really is a shame that folks give in to that so easily. I will tell you with no hesitation that it is no way to move forward into the future. It's strictly looking back over your shoulder all the time in fear and paranoia. "Give Me..." - not sure I want that unless it's something that takes Dick Cheney with him...seriously, life and death of others are not matters that are up to me, nor should they be. Besides, then it would go to the Speaker of the House if I have my "Line-of-Succession" rules right from High-School Civics or whatever it was called back then. Do we really want Tom DeLay in charge? Someone correct me if I am wrong on the Succession Line, please. It's been quite a while since I gave it any thought.
Adagio - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Stuart - you're comment is a sweeping generalization. I'm sure I don't know about the other voters, but I took EVERYTHING into consideration, visiting both parties' websites and the website of my faith in order to draw an informed, moral conclusion. The only fear I was motivated by was that Kerry would not know how to protect the country. Come to think about it, I'm sure others cast their vote using some of the same methods. Good parody as always, Paul. Sorry about the doldrums.
Paul Robinson - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks, Adagio.
Stuart McArthur - November 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Adagio - yes it is a sweeping generalisation, because I meant it that way. It works on an individual basis too. When things are looking down at home (financially, career, etc) people tend to be conservative - when all bases are covered, people become brighter, look to the future, and become more daring and change-minded. In politics, when a conservative is voted in, it usually means the nation has been feeling fearful, and is untrusting of change. When a liberal is voted in, it's usually because the nation has been feeling more excited and optimistic - very general, and basic, but true in my observation

Hey, alvin - guess I'll have to hold my parody of Van Morrison's "Madame George", "Say Good-Bye To That Damned George" for four more years. I hadn't quite ever finished it anyway, it's a pretty tough one, what with all of Van's sputtering & muttering and all...Would like to have been forced to do so by circumstances, however, it was not to be...
Abe L - November 04, 2004 - Report this comment
You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but it would be the fool who would dare to fool with change at this time, just as Stuart says about what motivates people to either want or reject change.
Paul Robinson - November 04, 2004 - Report this comment
Abe L - are you sure about that? I don't think that is what you said back then. It seems to me that when things are being pushed so completely in the wrong direction a change might be just the thing that is needed. BUT...anyway...that didn't happen, so I guess we will see. Heck, I thought you'd be spinning so fast by now that bone fragments would be flying off of you...
