The Lyrics

Many of you may have heard about last week's big to-do when some patrons at a Linda Ronstadt show at the Aladdin in Vegas took exception to Ms. R's dedication of her encore, "Desperado", to Michael Moore. While I don't have a problem with Ms. R closing her shows that way, I don't think the song is at all appropriate. "Come down from your fences"? If there's anyone in this country who is decidedly OFF the fence, it's Mike! So, I have a more appropriate encore for Linda to sing...
The country's sad and it's a scary time
Dubya's makin' dissent a crime
No one's tryin' to speak his mind
But Michael Moore

(chorus)
He's exposin' cor-prate crime
Rakin' through the muck and grime
Hopin' to see George Dubya do time
He's Michael Moore
I'm gonna sing my song, right or wrong
To Michael Moore
'Cause I think he's right, so I'll join the fight
Of Michael Moore
You can scream and boo, tear my posters too,
Just go see his movie
Then we'll all go and vote to see Bush go
And save our country

Dubya better pack up his coat
He's not gonna get enough votes
Maybe he can read "My Pet Goat"
To Michael Moore

(repeat chorus)

Come give me a hug, you big lug
I don't much care if the room is bugged
If we make news and the things you do
Help Kerry beat Shrub
I'll sing till my throat's sore, 'cause I adore
My Michael Moore!

I think Desparado would fit Moore's critics, who would like the line "why don't you come to your senses?"

Good one, Ravyn. I was fooling around with "Dark End Of The Street" last night trying to come up with something on this very subject but I only got part of it done. Not sure if I'm going to pursue it further, it'll probably be a dead issue pretty soon. Say, you know they FIRED Ronstadt over this BS...

And I wonder if the Eagles gave her permission to do that.........

I've read conflicting stories about exactly what happened at the Aladdin - some say the whole audience went nuts, others that it was just a few people who stormed out. Linda said she's been doing the dedication every night and will continue to. As it was, the Aladdin show was one night only, so they let her get to the encore...and even if she's never welcomed back, there are other venues in Vegas. Me? I think it's all a big tempest in a teapot, and Mike and Linda are getting some publicity for his movie and her tour. As a fan of both, I say hooray.

Good song ....Michael moore's critique is very well done and very funny.. but human societies always seem to create pecking orders and elites who seek to look after their interests one way or another ...the individuals/ groups and the specific issues change but with a few notable exceptions we don't seem fundamentally to be able to behave otherwise.......maybe we and the planet are ultimately doomed........
