Original Song Title:

"Banks Of The Ohio"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Olivia Newton-John

Parody Song Title:

"Yanks Born In Ohio"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

Long before ONJ became "Physical", she was a Country singer of some repute in Australia. Apparently. It didn't take her long to realise that this was limiting her fan base to about 3 dozen people. This little number - the original - well, who knows what in hell it is supposed to be about ? Seems to be some sort of failed attempt at a tragic love song. With the emphasis on both failed and tragic. We thought the song's title had a better use, at least ! A low-bitrate mp3 of the song can be found here.
Ulysses Grant (the Union head)
Died in New York, but was Buckeye bred
John H Glenn, into orbit, goed
These were some Yanks born in Ohio

Tom Edison : he saw the light
Orville showed that flight was Wright
Harr'et Beecher was slavery's foe
These were some Yanks born in Ohio

Paul Newman keeps those salads dressed
Moon walk showed world Armstrong's best
Clar' Darrow said : "We can murder He"
Erma Bombeck makes me laugh with glee

Clark Gable did - n't give a damn
Carm' Electra shows her clam
Don't deride poor ol' Custer's woes
These were some Yanks born in Ohio

Ann-ie Oakley, she held a gun
He shied baseballs, that man, Cy Young
State filled with scores of Tafts (one Gov.),
Two senators and one pres. (wiiiiiiiide)

Jack Nicklaus plays that golf devine
Devo, they sings mighty fine
Dean Martin, 'spite his rosy glow (heavy waters? No!)
He was not tanked, but he looked it, though (an act, you know)
These all were Yanks born in Ohio (in Ohio)

Excellent... funny and informative... didn't know for example, that Carm' had a clam! Might have been a tougher write for Rhode Island, I suspect...

Well, back when the world was black and white she was, but she is obviously very proud of her roots. She even made me 'nice up' my last couple of lines about Dean Martin, no less !!!!

We didn't forget anyone, we ran out of space ! Although, judging from the voting, maybe the One Guy lives in Ohio !

Yanks born in Ohio? You forgot the Captain himself, Thurman Munson! As for Clarence Darrow, he was very much against the death penalty. He also once said, "When I was a boy, I was told that any boy could grow up to become President. I'm beginning to believe it." He may have said this when fellow Ohioan Warren Harding was in the White House. He might have changed his mind had he seen the current occupant. (He might have changed his mind about the death penalty, too, and Bush is one criminal he would never have defended.)

Pach, we weren't suggesting Darrow was for the death penalty. It was more an observation on the side he had to take in the trial....
