The Lyrics

Ozark Mountain Daredevils - the OMD of the 70s! BTW, the line "your drink's really blue" works better when said aloud.
Ooh-hoo-hoo - Pepsi Blue
Looks like Windex and tastes like shampoo
Find that Slurpee you left in the rain
Ooh Pepsi, it's roughly the same

Stockpile your sku's in the grocery stores
Your latest weapon in the cola wars
I've given up, so please don't target me
With all your turquoise W.M.D.

Ooh-hoo-hoo - Pepsi Blue
Fire your product development crew
Could this be some consumerist joke?
Ooh Pepsi, you must be on Coke

Did Pepsi One really do so hot?
Your ads said yes, but your stock did not
Another mass-market painful death:
Ol' Crystal Pepsi's bad as crystal meth

Ooh-hoo-hoo - Pepsi Blue
Worse than Diet Code Red Mountain Dew
I did taste tests, and here's your review:
Ooh Pepsi, your drink's really blue

Ewww Pepsi
Ewww Pepsi
(etc.)

Great parody. I'm one of those people that LIKE Pepsi Blue. BTW, you could have also written a parody regarding Vida Blue, the former Oakland A's pitcher of the 1970's.
Claude Prez - June 12, 2003 - Report this comment
This is great. Too many great lines to mention. Outstanding.
Jonathan C. - June 13, 2003 - Report this comment
Almost perfect 10. I have to admit Pepsi's attempts at variety has fallen well short of the original. Oh, well, it can't be as bad as Diet Coke with Lemon or Diet Vanilla Coke.
Spaff.com - June 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks, guys. A recording should be coming soon. Funny - I've heard from a few people saying "Hey, I LIKE Pepsi Blue." To which my response is: Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, and yours is wrong. ;-) And, for the record, while I dislike all diet drinks, I have to admit that Diet Code Red Mountain Dew's not all that bad. It just fit too well to pass up. Finally, Tim, how's this?: "Ooh-hoo-hoo - Vida Blue / Pitched for Oakland in '72 / In the League of Indelible Names / Ooh Vida, you're Hall of Fame"

Delightful! You hit the nail right on the head, thank you - not so much about the pop as about commercialism. Thanks!

Sorry I missed this one earlier! It's great!

Thanks, y'all. The music and vocals were done by Robert Lund, and I think he got this one just right. Kinda gets stuck in your head. Or gut.

I tried Pepsi Blue once and I liked it okay...but Diet Coke with Lemon tastes rather like carbonated dish soap. *shudder*

Shameless plug: This is available as a bonus track on the Robert Lund CD "Elves Gone Wild!" (www.elvesgonewild.com)
Big Red - December 28, 2003 - Report this comment
I have the CD, and it's HILARIOUS! Great bargain at $9.99. I just have one question that you probably aren't able to answer: Who were the 2 people that were dumb enough to vote ones? Maybe they work for Pepsi or something.
Spaff.com - December 30, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanx, Red! We all get voted 1s - it's part of the game. I figure a $1 tip isn't as good as a $5 tip, but it's better than getting stiffed entirely.
In other news, I've heard that the drink Pepsi Blue has been discontinued. That's tragic, of course, but it means my stockpile of unopened cans will soon be collectors' items. Woo-hoo!
Paul Robinson - December 31, 2003 - Report this comment
Spaff - Another top-notcher. Didn't know if anyone else remembered the OMD anymore. "Jackie Blue" was actually quite different from most of their material (which I always thought was extremely good), it's a lot more "pop" than everything else they did. But it was very well done. I always liked "If You Want To Get To Heaven". When I tried my hand at karaoke ( I know, you're supposed to use your VOICE), that was the first song I ever did worth a sh*t. People were actually up and dancing and the girl I went with turned around to see who was singing and nearly crapped.
Spaff.com - January 12, 2004 - Report this comment
Paul: Belated thanks. I've never heard "If You Want to Get to Heaven," but I look forward to hearing you do it at the big amiright party.

Spaff, Yeah, I had that happen on a parody I did that slammed Wal-Mart a month or two ago. Some people just can't take a joke...well, like Mom always said, "F*ck 'em"...No, my Mother really didn't say that - I'm not sure if she ever used the "F" word in her entire life - in fact, just trying to picture her saying that is making me crack up now. I think the closest she came to using an epithet that I ever heard was to say that someone was an "S.O.B.", although sometimes she would just say they were a "You Know What", so she wouldn't have to actually say "S.O.B."...Youngest Son does not share this lingual limitation...
Spaff.com - December 19, 2004 - Report this comment
P-Rob: Nice of your mother to avoid calling you those things in your presence. Heh heh.
Paul Robinson - February 11, 2005 - Report this comment
Well, Spaff...you know...Mom's and their youngest sons...yeah...touching...but I owe her, she was the one who did the NY Times crossword puzzle just about every day...and finished the damned thing 99% of the time...voracious reader...word wizard...Scrabble player par-excellant (?)...I musta got some of the spillage...
Spaff.com - February 22, 2005 - Report this comment
P-Rob: So your ability to play with language is genetic, then. She sounds great. Did she also speak like a pirate? Heh heh.
Matthias - June 10, 2005 - Report this comment
What ever happened to Pepsi Blue? Did your song mean that much to the factory?
Spaff.com - June 11, 2005 - Report this comment
Matthias: I'm bummed that Pepsi Blue went away, but for purely selfish reasons: It instantly dated this parody, which is one of my favorite Robert Lund recordings. The drink still has its fans, however, as evidenced by the votes above.
Matthias - June 12, 2005 - Report this comment
Not so much for Diet Code Red Mountion Dew it seems though.... lol....
Dubya Tee Eff? - June 21, 2006 - Report this comment
What's with all the triple ones, esp. the "1" votes for pacing?? I didn't think the pacing was THAT bad.
Rafeal De La Ghetto - June 22, 2006 - Report this comment
I'm with DTF...this parody deserves better votes.
Spaff.com - June 25, 2006 - Report this comment
I'm glad, WTF and RDLG, that you don't find the pacing THAT bad. Here's my theory on the 111's: If you Google "Pepsi Blue," this parody comes up on the first page of results. (Yes, I'm giddy about that.) But since the people who Google "Pepsi Blue" are probably looking for the stuff - because they LIKE it - they're unlikely to appreciate this less-than-complimentary review of the product.

Either that or the parody sucks.
Mr. Critic - June 29, 2006 - Report this comment
No, I don't think the parody sucks. Rafeal and DTE (which probably means the same thing as WTF) have a point. I found the pacing a tad off, but it wasn't TOTALLY off. So how's about a 4,5,5?
Spaff.com - July 15, 2006 - Report this comment
I'm speechless.

I missed your reply of, ummm...oh, Feb 22, 2005, but the thought of Mom doing "Pirate Talk" tickled my fancy so much I had to come back and say, "HAR" and slap me peg-leg with me old right-hand side hook....OUCH! The recording of Pepsi Blue was great; it sounds very close to TOS. I don't remember Pepsi Blue, but laughed all the way through this. This no longer 1st in a Google search for Pepsi Blue, but I suppose if I mention Pepsi Blue again it might be. =)

Stumbled across this while searching on Google for my own Pepsi Dependency (Intriguing) 5's are no doubt, Pepsi Blue was awful, shampoo was being awfully kind considering how awful Pepsi Blue really was. . .at least it wasn't Pepsi Clear though, that was far worse! It tasted like old piss water (as opposed to Surge which tasted like fresh piss water) . . .and I do mean that negatively (I don't drink piss water) . . .anyway. . .awesome parody, terrible memory (Pepsi Blue, Pepsi Tropical Summer Mix, Pepsi Clear, Pepsi One etc) They should just stick to Pepsi, they do that right.
Spaff.com - February 24, 2008 - Report this comment
Thanks, BADave. You need to hear Robert Lund's recording of this if you haven't yet. And it's unfair to knock piss water by comparing it to Crystal Pepsi.

Just want to let you know I had a chance to listen to Robert Lund's CD Elves Gone Wild! All of the songs are so hilarious! So Weird Al! I was hoping to wait till Christmas to listen to them, but oh well. I even listened to Pepsi Blue. Lund sounded just like OMD's. I'm no humbug, that's for sure. Thanks for everything, Spaff. Until then, peace out!--Christie.
